It was absolutely awful. Started maybe 15 minutes after dinner. Felt nauseaus, that became worse . Went to lie down for a bit but that did nothing. I ended up puking probably upwards of 15 times, puking nothing but bile after two times
Got very hot/cold flashes alternating the whole time.
Just awful.

I managed to finally fall asleep and not puke, which at that point is pure bliss. Drank some water and feel maybe 90% okay again.

I'm always so careful, but my guess is that this happened because I blindly re-used an oven cookie tray , that I had used the previous day but forgot to wash it (it was still in the oven with previous day debris from a warm dish).

My son was luckily unaffected

I don't think I've ever had food poisoning before , not that I remember at least.
Just water for me for the next few days .

Oh my gosh! What did you eat? My daughter got food poisoning once, from chicken, and she couldn't eat any chicken at all without her food poisoning symptoms repeating again, for years!

Glad you're better now!

Thanks! And that sounds terrible! Ugh.
It was pizza (aldi store bought just recently), and a salad kit (date was good ).
Nothing tasted funny or bad.

I just wanted an easy dinner night (well for 2 nights actually), normally I cook from stratch, which might be safer.

My bet is that it was the salad kit, not the reused cookie sheet or the Pizza. Salad kits are notorious for all kinds of bacterial toxins! That's why they keep getting recalled.

But I get it. I still use some salad kits myself! LOL They're so convenient and yummy!

Good thing it lasted only a day. Chances are, next time you encounter whatever it was that got you sick, you'll feel it again, even if it hasn't gone bad. You know, like the smell of cilantro will remind you, or peperoni, or whatever it was.

Yes, it's probably a good idea to skip salad kits from now on. Too bad , as they are tasty and convenient.
I think the thought of pizza or salad , or any food atm, will make my stomach turn

Hey, at least I will lose some weigh in the process

Read the thread up to this point. Glad you are feeling better. I've been through it and wasn't at home or even a place I could lie down.
Did you have any condiments of any type, like salad dressing or extra toppings added to the pizza? They may have been in the fridge too long. If so, don't take any chances and just toss them all.

Thanks, and that sounds absolutely awful. Not at home ,no proper way to wash up or lie down . How did you cope?
No, I didn't add anything extra. The salad kit was finished, but yes, I will toss the dressing that is left.
Right now!

You got off lightly it seems with just one days sickness but as another poster points out what gave you the sickness never leaves your gut and will flare up again at the slightest hint of tasting a slightly off food in that group .

I ate a yoghurt that was out of date one night I was very drunk back in the 90s , within a hour I was doubled up in pain and scared to go more than a few feet from my toilet and if not for a neighbour not seeing me for over a week I would have been dead .

In 10 days my weight had gone from 15 stones to 9 and a half and my elderly neighbour popped over to see why I had not been around took one look at me and phoned a doctor ,he handed me a little pill and that cured the pain and within a hour I was OK , I do remember him saying it was dangerous to loose more than 6% of body fluids but he did not put me to hospital for fluids like he should have as I lost a massive amount of muscle mass and depleted my body of vital vitamins ?.

Take plenty of fluids and get as many vitamins as you can to help your body

Wow! That sounds absolutely awful, ten times worse
Do you remember the name of the pill?
And I have eaten yoghurts that are out date (if they smell and taste fine), but maybe I should pay more attention and avoid this .

How did you cope?

It was during an evening trip to AC. Stopped at an out of town restaurant that a friend suggested. Then headed to the casinos. Started slowly getting sicker and sicker. Eventually had to tell my friend that we had to head out as I was feeling bad. Didn't get to far down the highway when I had to pull over fast and just made it out of the car before I un-ate my dinner. By now I was just done, couldn't even stand up. My friend bravely (without much choice really), not knowing how to drive a stick shift, drove the 2 1/2 hours back with me feeling like death in the passenger seat. Still had to pull over two more times.
The good news is that I survived and my friend then knew how to drive a manual transmission.

At least it came out through the top end and not the reverse.
Not all of us are so lucky when it comes to food poisoning lol.

Had it once…. My lord

Food poisoning can happen up to twenty four hours after contacting the microbes. If you get sick right away, it is usually the excretions of microbes that are bountiful in the food or sometimes certain chemistries can be put in food by mistake at the manufacturer which can cause that too. If you have a frozen pizza that was thawed out for a long time then refroze during shipping or in the store it can high levels of microbial chemicals in it...those some times might not break down with high heat.

If you made cookies, that pan most likely did not cause the problem if left over night. Cookies are high in sugar and in fats most times, high levels of either hinders bacteria growth. But some cookies don't have a lot of fat or sugar in them. Eggs in cookies contain anti-microbial action too, but if the eggs were old those chemistries usually lessen as they are used to protect the egg from rotting.

I think you either had a bad pizza or possibly something you had eaten up to twenty four hours earlier actually got you sick. Pizza is high in tyramines, they can trigger a stomach to react if you have an infection going. Histamine is a tyramine chemistry. I can't tell you for sure that your pan not being cleaned caused it or not, I suppose it is possible. But you should examine your food intake for the last day, an immediate response is not the only way you can get food poisoning.

Also, you could also just have one of those stomach viruses and the high histamine of the pizza triggered that response.

Consuming some foods with stubborn bacteria can even cause an infection to happen up to four days later...that is why it is so hard for the FDA to identify sources of food poisoning, identifying the cause is not simple and time to active can be a while.

Good luck with what you got. I hope it does not last long. Remember too that if you do have that stomach flu going around, strong food chemistries can trigger the puking and stomach problems. You could pass it on to others with no immunity to the virus that causes it.

Good thing you were not alone at least , even if he suggested the restaurant

The yoghurt was out of date when I bought it 2 weeks before and forgot about it in the fridge, I had been staying at my then girlfriends home mostly and went to mine after I had a bit to drink one night at the bar .

I still shake my head at the incompetence of my local doctor back then , he walked into my home one evening and said wow you look like #, take this little tablet www.meagherspharmacy.ie...
Told I had a massive weight loss ,,said it was not good and walked out ! .

The same doctor could not see a broken ankle despite repeated visits complaining about the pain lol , I would look at what you ate that night and narrow it down ingredient by ingredient, With me it was the milk and any slightly off product with milk makes me I'll again , the coating on KFC sets my gut of as will even slightly off milk or products that uses milk in the ingredients I have to be careful of .

But stock your body with vitamins and plenty water

We should all know better when it comes to salad kits. Make your own salad from scratch. You never know who was handling that salad, and if they indeed use good hygiene. I wash avocados with soap before cutting them.

... and a salad kit ...

I don't buy any produce pre-cut or pre-processed. Somebody's hands were all over that lettuce and whatever else was in it. No telling what level of hygiene they were practising or what the prep area was like.

The less something has been handled (especially something fresh or uncooked) the better. My money would be on that salad kit.

Worse again, at least I was able to keep down some water by the end of the evening.
I think it was probably the salad kit, won't buy them anymore. They're not cheap and questionable at best.
