They need fingerprints for a background check. Do you oppose a background before letting a person buy a gun?

Well, for starters, the people in the states of TX and VA oppose fingerprinting.

There are probably a lot of other states that oppose fingerprinting too.

Some NY'ers had a stroke when I brought my gun here legally from VA. NY had to allow it to comply with the Constitution's "full faith & credit" clause.

I really do love this country and our founding fathers. Brilliant men!

I’d rather just attest to who I am in a gun shop with only a signature.
Good idea.

I'd rather that there weren't mass shootings at schools and community events, but here we are.

I like the idea.

However, how is facial recognition any different from a finger print?

And how will you safeguard false positives?

Facial recognition software is passive. Fingerprints require that I somehow let the person checking "get" my fingerprints. The most unobtrusive way would be to have the person press his fingers down own a sheet of glass and the have a scanner get the prints. That's active.

For facial recognition software the person need not do anything but look into a camera. No touching, etc. That's passive.

With respect to false positives, that's up to the software. Good software should yield very few false positives. There will always be a few that it doesn't get right, but it should be a vanishingly small percentage. The tech has gotten very, very good.

All good, except the "permission" thing. But, it's the same for us-me..."permission" is just as is a "background" check we all get.

I see these as the same....

Enforcing the laws already on the books is a good start.
The tranny epidemic isn’t helping either.
Just glad there are good guys with guns out there or it would be much worse.

Just like getting proofed at a bar when you're younger.

Me and my fake ID got me into plenty of bars when I was younger. It was a real driver's license. It just wasn't mine.

Was that driver's license a photo ID?

If so, did you look like that photo?

If not, whomever proofed you didn't care whether or not you were of legal drinking age. They just cared that the bar was covered in the event of a raid by law enforcement or the state liquor authority.

I had to provide a valid ID to register to vote. Once registered, I don't need to show my ID again. I must attest that I am who I say I am by signature.

Good point.

However, in many states you can register to vote at the polling place on the day of the election. They have separate tables setup expressly for that purpose.

I first moved out to CA in October of 1990. Since I had just arrived from NY I hadn't yet had time to get my new CA drivers license. I had my NY drivers license and offered to show that and the person said that won't help as you need a CA address to vote in CA. If you can show us a utility bill with your name and local address on it, that will suffice.

Of course I had one since the cable TV company pre-bills you for installation and your first month's bill in advance. I had called to set up my new place for cable before I had moved out there so that it could be installed the day after I moved in. The cable bill was waiting in my mailbox when I moved in. So I went back home to get it as it was literally down the block from the polling place and took 5 minutes.

Bottom line, I voted for local, state and federal offices in the 1990 election with nothing more than a cable TV bill.

God bless America.

Well if they are required to be trained they will be better shots than the police.
But..I jest...guns are bad. How will normal everyday gun owners figure out to keep their guns from sneaking out of the house and indiscriminately murdering or wounding folks without government instruction?

I live in the country (somwhere in Oregon) and saw a wild AR-15 leading a pack of Ruger 10-22's roaming one of my fields....I feared for my life.
Thank God for the gun expert Dems!!
Man I think the group of guns I saw...I will call them a muder...like crows...well they had oversized 2000 round magazines , fully automatic single shot bolt action hunting rifles and illegal dirty porno magazines....could have just been an illegal group of gotaways..but man those oversized "clips" were evil..I think they held 7 rounds.
Dems won't have an idea what I'm talking about...lol
