While PBS and other news outlets scream of "book banning', they never show you why the parents want these particular titles "out" of the classrooms. It started with high schools, then middle schools, and of course you know the goal, get them into the K-5 grades.

Take at good look and tell me this is what we should be providing kids. You know if you sent that to a kid via email, you could be charged right?

www.pbs.org...

The most common titles targeted in these bans address race, gender identity, sexuality and reproductive health. Maia Kobabe’s “Gender Queer” had the most challenges — 151 total — for the second year in a row, according to the ALA.

The ALA’s figures are based on a combination of news reports on attempted book bans and voluntary accounts from schools and libraries. The association said its data is likely an undercount, with as many as 97 percent of challenges go unreported. Each book ban attempt can include multiple titles, and a single title can also be challenged multiple times in one state (for example, in different library districts).

Texas had the most attempts to restrict books — at 93 total — last year. Toni Morrison’s debut 1970 novel “The Bluest Eye” was the most challenged book in the state.

This makes me consider if this agenda is to promote a future where parents are so outraged en-masse about how disconnected they are from their child's academic education that a solution is proposed for A.I. education systems in every parent's home (see where this is going....TV/BIG BROTHER/1984).

This shifts responsibility from the education system to the parents but retains control of the objective.

"Conditioning".

This move also eliminates the need for so many of the rescources like properties, staff, equipment, security, caretaking and maintenance, energy bills, the whole damn show gets packed up and a virtual school is plugged in wherever there is an available mind.

"They" don't need to mess with everyday people. They just need to distract them enough to get to the kids ONCE.

Then, it's part of the thing so many often wish for.

"Normal".

I can't believe The Bluest Eye is the most challenged book in Texas when it is about a universe away from books like Gender Queer. This is part of the problem.

With the 30's book bans in Germany, it was also for pornographic or "smut" content.
I had to research the Wiemar Republic quite extensively in college, for a production of "Cabaret."

I have worked on a production of "The Bluest eye." It's a difficult story, dealing with race, and rape- maybe incest? It's been a few years. It's a hard story to travel through. But so is life.

Now, I'm not a fan of advancing any agenda through literature/ media. But I am not opposed to tell any story through literature/ media.

I understand why we have movie ratings, and maybe that is the solution with books as well.
I read Steven King's it at 12 or 13, which was awesome, as I was about peer to age with the kids, but there are certain thing written in the novel which were not character age appropriate.

But again, is that advancing an agenda, or telling a story?

One thing that needs to be said is none of those books have been banned and are available in most public libraries and bookstores, so it seems sensationalism is the chosen path of the left in just about everything these days.

It's funny when the left does the same thing with a book like To Kill a Mockingbird its called "removed the book from school curriculums" or "removed from student reading lists"

See how that works?

Exactly, I was just going post the same. None of these books are banned, we just don’t want our children reading pron.

I’m really sick of hearing that the GOP is banning books, it’s just another lie to try and further the left’s agenda. If the parents/s want their child to read this garbage they can purchase it and read it a home.

Im sorry to tell you, but USA has one of the strictest R-rating guidelines in the western world if it was pirn it would be rated as such.

Education is the best deterrent against sexual violence. You send that pic to an unknowing kid it wouldn't even know what its dealing with, adult has a much easier time to lead them into pedo land...

PREDATORS LOVE UNEDUCATED KIDS...

Keep up the good fight... The presidency thanks you for your service....

I think its time for sex education to cut the crap and let all the kids watch porn hub. Righht????

I never cared for the DNC, but what they are now is beyond criminal. The fact that an entire political party seems to support this behavior is amazing to me. Amazing in a bad way.

A teacher got canned for showing students a pic of Michelangelo's David, apparently, it's also pornographic.

that's just not true, and even if it was so what free speech is free speech and this isn't an autocracy, so get out of here justifying fascist policy.

The SCOTUS once ruled porn can't be defined. They wouldn't rule.

That was a few decades ago of course....how to fix something that has no definition?

Many got away this way.....and it got worse. Way worse...

I don't really think it is just about freedom of speech. Consider movie theaters.

AMC policies specific to R-Rated titles include children under 6 are not allowed at R-Rated movies after 6pm at any theatre. Guests under 17 must be accompanied by a guardian who is 21 or older. Please be prepared to show ID at the theatre.

www.amctheatres.com...

Do these policies limit free speech? No. They limit who is able to view certain materials in certain venues. I don't think that is any different than schools (especially elementary schools) wanting to limit who can access certain materials. In both scenarios, the material is still available via other means. A parent can go to a public library and check the book out for their child, buy it on Amazon, etc. The same with movies children aren't allowed to see unaccompanied in theaters, but the parent or guardian can accompany them or rent it/buy it for them, etc.

Part of the problem is that most reasonable people know porn and smut when we see it.

Unfortunately, there are extremist on both sides who lump things that shouldn't be offensive into these causes. That is how you get books removed like Bluest Eye.

Ironic that the rightwing wants to ban books while their kids can access the most vile content available on their cell phones, tablets and laptops.

If a kid is curious about sexuality, they won't go looking for that info in the school library, when they have a peer group that can lead straight to that info via the WWW.

Here's a thought...."Deny Ignorance"

No one is trying to ban books. Parents just want more control over what content is distributed in schools. You appear to agree by demonstrating that it is still available outside the schools. That isn't ironic, its actually the whole point.

The principle of the school was terminated because she refused to follow the policy of first obtaining parental consent. This was a trip the school has made multiple times in the past. The Media's version of the story is, no surprise, misleading.
