For years now, decades actually, we have heard "the end" is near. But what is it? The end of what?

In the 60's we were told that we would run out of oil in the 70's.
We were told there would be wide spread famine in the 70's.
In the 70's we were told there was a new ice age about to happen.
We were told the ozone would disappear and all life on Earth would end.
We were told the killer bees were going to get us all.
We were told there would be food rationing by the 80's.
In the 80's we were told acid rain would kill flora and fauna in huge numbers.
We were told the oceans were going to rise and wipe out huge swaths of coastal land.
In the 90's we were told Y2K would be the end of us all, and the polar ice caps were going to be gone by 2010.
In the 2000's we were told it would be terrorism, famine, and plagues.
In the 2010's we were told it was global warming and the Mayan calendar.
Now its everything from cow farts to fossil fuels to murder hornets to endless covid variants.

We are nowhere near running out of oil.
Wide spread famine never materialized.
The new ice age disappeared as fast as it arrived.
The ozone is actually better now than it was then.
Food rationing never happened.
Acid rain never happened.
The oceans didn't rise.
Y2K was nothing but a minor inconvenience, but a lot of people made a lot of money...
Terrorism, famine, and plagues are manageable if we are allowed to manage them.
The calendar started over at the beginning - like calendars do.
Global warming is the new ice age - and not happening.
The rest is too stupid to even comment on.

One of the biggest things now is the rising oceans. This is a great device since only retrospect will serve as proof. The people warning us about rising oceans are all buying beach front property their private jets take them to whenever they need to unwind. The banks are still financing this construction, even though we are supposed to believe it will soon be under water and worthless.

In 1620 Plymouth rock was above sea level. In 1720 it was above sea level. In 1820 it was above sea level. In 1920 it was above sea level. In 2020 it was above sea level. Call me when it goes under. Until then stfu.

Why is biden trying to convert the entire US to electric cars by 2030? California cant meet its own energy needs now even though they already borrow power from three neighboring states. They still have rolling brown outs and black outs when the air conditioners turn on. And that is not the biggest problem with this plan. Even if we ran every power generation station at its max output, including all the fossil fuel and nuclear plants, we could not generate enough energy to meet the projected needs of that many ev's. And even if we could generate that much energy, our electrical grid could not handle transmitting that much power. Even if our grid could handle that much power, by far the greater majority of homes are not wired to deliver that much power. In order to make the plan a reality we would have to dramatically increase our power generation capability, retool the entire electrical grid from coast to coast, and rewire the majority of homes in this country - all in the next 6 1/2 years. Is there one single person on this planet who thinks democrats can accomplish these goals in that time frame? Bueller...? Bueller...?

So why are TPTB so intent on having us believe that there is always some overwhelming calamity just around the corner ready to wipe us out? Why is nothing of value being done to prevent these alleged certainties? Why does the media bang on about it day after day and offer no suggestions or solutions?

Why are TPTB so intent on pitting us against each other? It doesn't matter what groups we are talking about or what the core ideology is, as long as they are in direct opposition to each other they serve the purpose. It is obvious that someone is setting us against each other in every imaginable way. But the question is why? What is the payoff? Why invest that much time and effort? What is the end game for the people doing this?

Any two groups who oppose each other are part of the equation. It doesn't matter who they are or what they believe as long as they are in direct opposition. TPTB, the media, the players in this sick game, fan the flames of that opposition every chance they get. They try to get people so rabid and angry that they see the other side as less than human, not worthy of inclusion in society, too dumb to be of value, not worth saving. They have been dehumanized. Shackles and slurs dehumanize. Obscuring identities dehumanize. Restricting communities dehumanize.

White against non-white.
Secular against non-secular.
Rich against poor.
Young against old.
Conservative against progressive.
Skinny against fat.
Urban against rural.
Straight against gay.
Meat eaters against vegans.
Citizens against illegal aliens.
Republicans against democrats...

I believe less than 1% of the population of this country fails to land in one of those categories. Simply put, 99% of the population of the USA has been, in someone's eyes, dehumanized to varying degrees.

The conservative traditionalists (the basket of deplorables) vs. the liberal progressives (the bowl of granola - froots nuts and flakes).

So why is this agenda so damned important?

When the opposition has been sufficiently dehumanized, human rights are no longer an issue.

When we see one group dehumanize another we all feel it deep in our hearts, a piece of humanity lost. Even if it is two groups whom we have no interest in, it still affects us all. When one person loses their humanity our collective population has lost one person's worth of humanity. How many do we have to lose before it all falls apart?

What percentage of the population has to be devalued before the whole can no longer be saved? Imagine if 50% of the population were seen as not good enough, not worth saving, unredeemable. Society would be lost. What if it were 40%? Would that be enough? 30%? 20%? What if just 10% of the population was deemed unworthy? That would mean society has been decimated. You never hear the word "decimated" and think, "That is a good thing." That is because it isn't. The definition of decimated is literally one in ten - 10%. Attrition for the win.

Most people think that they are not capable of seeing someone as less than human, no matter how much they disagree on something. If you could snap your fingers and all opposition to your most critical beliefs would just disappear, would you do it? If getting them on your side was not an option, would you eliminate them for what you believe to be the greater good? Would you sacrifice a limb to save the body? For every person who said "yes" there is a person on the other side who also said "yes".

We just wished ourselves into oblivion - for the greater good...

(forgive me if this seems disjointed or incongruous. It was written 'stream of consciousness' style and left as is.)

"For years now" ?!?

Try thousands of years. There has always been a person or cult or society or etc.. that thinks the end of the world is just around the corner. Now we all know about it because they have an easier time spreading the 'information.'

Two + tiers of justice.

Sorry to give such a bland response in the face of your OP but it's the beginning and end of any society or civilization.

Even animals understand unfairness.

We are given opposing views to keep us focused on fighting each other; if people were united they might notice neither party every accomplishes much in the way of making our country better for the common man.

Hungry, confused, fearful, angry people are so much easier to manipulate. Should we ever untie, the 1% would be in serious trouble, and they can't allow that.

Division; to the extent people will no longer talk and converse
with one another. Sometime before that happens, an AI overlord
will be ushered in and will rule everyone.

People will be forced to choose a "future"; between an AI
"utopia" or being an outcast with no means of income or
the ability to buy or sell.

This could take 20 or 30, 40 or more years...
Depending on how fast things speed up.

Or they could get some heavy duty steps in say...
2-3 years from now come about 2025.

Societies have always fretted over "the end"...

I think then that the habit passes from societies to cultures.

Sadly, in a world of "amplified" messaging and repeating programing, the trusting are usually distracted and led away from the reality that we have been, and are, surviving. Maybe not as well as we might all like, or could be, but we are.

Some folks create horrors to coddle. Others want to coddle them... for the attention.

That was God's plan from the beginning, wasn't it?

The greater good is for this world to end and a new and perfect one to begin.

The useful idiots are just helping to rush it in.

You are probably right in the most direct analysis.

For me, I would like to see Wolverines develop opposing thumbs like Racoons. Imagine what a motivated group of Wolverine could do if they could hold a gun...the most vicious animal on the planet, armed and mad as hell...

True, its always been a part of the picture. But I think it is more exaggerated than its ever been before. Its downright ridiculous most of the time.

I think your answer stands well on its own. That is a big one. In a way I think it fits in to the concept of dehumanizing by losing identity. When faced with such a dramatic two-tiered system it is easy to see yourself as "less than" if you are on the losing end of that system.

If most of us did 1/1000th of what congress does on a daily basis we would be behind bars in no time.

I know, right?

I agree, at some point, somewhere down the road, ocean levels may change. Maybe they go up, maybe they go down. But I think it is incredibly arrogant to think we puny humans can have that much of an effect on a thriving planet billions of years old. How long have we even been here? And out of all that, we have only used fossil fuels for about 150 years. But yeah, cow farts...
