Something going on possible ATS hack

Got one too.
hovered over the name in my list of new unread emails. Shows up as "[email protected]
So scampered over here to search for him/her in members but got directed to threads with a banned member posting.

Have already had my fun this weekend with a fake Mac full screen alert to call Mac Support.
Panicked for a few moments but googled it. Total scam. A friend of mine got the same kind of nonsense from HotMail.

The best so far was the Text claiming I've ignored alerts and if I don't delete my phones add blockers this would be the last time they contact me. Just so bad on so much!! I don't have add blockers on my phone, I'm also very cool with them ghosting me. Holy @!!!! This is how NOT to run a scam!!! The Text-er Seems to have had one of those "phoning it in" workdays wondering why no one contacted them?

I've been picking up on this as well.
My conclusion was already:
We've been hacked. China (at least someone who does not belong) is in the house. May be time to step away.

And I'm dead serious to that feeling.

I too got the email... I think they may have got my email when I signed up for the "alternative" when ATS was down for a while previously.

100% Correct.

But the really curious, in with all my email spam is KFC ads from New Zealand. So I can know what is on sale on the other side of the world, I guess. I also get Giant Tiger ads with as a Canadian chain. And some dive bar in Florida.

Kinda interesting since ATS was down for several hour this morning.

That is an owner/tech question. Staff doesn’t get those notices from the server so the line between member and mod is mighty thin there.

If they want us to know, they will tell us. SO didn’t address every outage back in the day. Could have been spring cleaning for the hosting service. The big outage we had last year was told to us and was kinda silly in that it was an expired card on file…compared to the panic, violence, dumpster fires and overturned cars.

I wouldn’t worry.

About a week ago, I got on line and went to Firefox. When it popped up everything was in chinese. I shut it down, refreshed my desktop, and went back into firefox. It was back in English.

I got that today as well. Passtoreal had an alternate site or discord last year when this site was down for day, likely how he got email addresses. Just looks like someone disgruntled with ATS for whatever reason. No idea what this simulation thing he's talking about this time is all about

If you mouseover the email address the message is from it shows you their proton mail address.

This all boils down to money. This group of people wanted to advertise their site/videos etc on ATS but did not want to pay. They chose to go against multiple sections of our terms and conditions of use by marketing and recruiting our users.

Unfortunately there was a time last year when ATS was down for a while and many people created replacement forums. This group was one of them. Those who signed up for their site provided their email addresses and are now receiving their emails. There is nothing ATS can do about that nor is it the fault of anyone at ATS.

It’s one of the primary reason I had personally migrated over to discord in my own efforts to remain in touch with people from here. On discord I know your username and that’s all.

The bottom line is I don’t appreciate stealth marketing. Aside from being against our rules it’s also just classless and nasty to try and steal users and information from others’ hard work. I don’t care what their cause is or who is involved or anything about them because their approach here told me all I needed to know. Not people I would ever do business with.

So to summarize, no ATS was not hacked, no ATS did not give out anyone’s email address, no I am not involved with this group and yes after more than 20 years I’m still here.

Djarums is an ATS administrator and also the person who created the ATS Discord a couple of years back when the sight went down for a protracted period.

The Passtoreal person or people started spamming ATS at some point in the past, hocking books, fundraising, recruiting and e-begging, which got them banned.

Parts of this process included creating a forum of their own at one point, their own Discord and multiple websites that they linked via ATS.

This is likely how they got people's information and email addresses.

Over the course of the ATS Discord they've popped up pulling the same nonsense there and Djarums was incredibly patient with them overall. Simply asking that they not do it.

The person or people then created a fair few Discord accounts to embed sock puppets into the Discord.

Things came to a head and all of those sleeper accounts were banned recently.

That act triggered the current ATS bad tantrum.

That's all there is to it really.
