You used to be able to filter on the Members tab but I guess that's no longer a thing.

i noticed that and considered that maybe the new owners want to remain anonymous. Do the rest of them seem current?

Member list sorted by most posts brings mods fairly high on the list, like first 3 pages as some post more than others. Then look at last visited date to see activity levels. The Forums page is pretty up to date but never tells activity level. DTOM is always active and checks PM’s regularly.

Complaint feature works. Although big questions take time and it is Thanksgiving weekend in the US which is a major travel holiday.

Why? What are you looking for? What's your reasons? Hmmm? 😃

Masqua is still listed as a Moderator in that list you led me to there, while I just learned from a last post by Mark Springer, that he has passed away. Just as that friendly mod, William One Sac also did, already many more years ago.
And that left me in shock, since I really liked their honest and cautious moderating styles.

I'm really feeling terribly sad since I read that, because that brought back all those memories about my interactions with so many deceased other very interesting members I met and interacted with on this board, since I first read and visited it from 1998 onwards, when it still was a young and fresh bulletin board. Used a few other names then, untill I chose my LaBTop name and avatar in 2005.

The bad mess with all the political misunderstandings and misinterpretations in the last past 4 years on this board, lead me to take a long sabatical from this board, with just a few visits now and then, from 2018 onwards.

However, after reading the last impressive posts of the former owners, Bill and Mark, and reading how they managed to keep ATS alive and kicking by finding a dedicated new owner, who clearly keeps this one of a very special kind of a site running, together with the same old club of fine, honest Mods and Admins, as if they are still there.!

While these two amigo's hopefully enjoy some well earned vacation time from the heavy burden that this Task must have been at several times over the years for them two former owners.

I thus will go back posting on this still damn interesting site.
And really hope lots of also disappeared former fine posters will also reappear again in the coming weeks, months and years, since you all were hooked, line and sinker by the unforgettable ambiance on this one of a kind, members-oriented board.
I did not realize enough, up till now, how sincerely I missed you all.!!!

Greetings to all my still present and reading old friends and eventual opposing adversarie friends aboard this one of a kind treasure trove of human wisdom and creativity.!

Lets roll again, and enjoy all these coming soon, newly spun out, ever interesting discussions.

Welcome back.
Hopefully more old members follow suit.

Many Mods and old members have sadly passed or no longer visit, but there are still some great people here.
Its still by far the best site of its type around and the Mods/Admin do a great job - sure, they do things at times that get our backs up......but such is the nature of their role and this site would be a damn sight worse without them.

A peculiar thing: you can only really get upset about something if you care about it.

ATS its ~ Dead or banned members.

Ahabstar, an unexpected revalation for me was finding and subsequently making this following list of all the banned, lost, left, removed or forgotten former members, with all their, luckily still present posts, but sadly enough, beginning with that eery tiny green tilde :

Which means that they are banned, or (perhaps?) have left the ATS boards/website.

It's only a story about a huge, with seemingly bad taste sculpted, former Jezus statue in the US, struck by lightning, and then the epoxy in the fiberglass and its cut-out styrofoam blocks construction subsequently completely burned down to the ground.





When starting reading its first pages, one thing directly drew my attention.
It's loaded with these non functional anymore members and their still existing posts, which puzzled me for quite a while. Many of those member names rang a clear and loud bell in my memory synapses, lots of them were quite well known over many many years, for loads of well thought out, and informing and highly interesting posts.

Thus it seems at first glance, that the first two Corona virus years, 2020 and 2021, were quite the longtime-members slaughterhouse at ATS.
How come, one thinks? Posters were perhaps badly affected by all the mayhem regarding that pandemy and were a lot more itchy than normal, resulting in a banning flood.?
However, when checking, the banning/leaving has spread in fact, over all years.
Thus, the RULES were too tight for these, at times far too hot headed, free souls.?

For me, and supposedly many more with me here at ATS, those banned former members are in fact deceased, dead, gone forever in most cases, for us all, since we have no other means of contacting them anymore, to eventually complete some very interesting discussions about various subjects and lines of thought, while we have interacted with them.
And thus lack the possibility to report back here at ATS, about eventual emerging results of further bickering, contemplating and keeping in touch with banned former members.

Sometimes it's far too much reading for overworked Mods, of long winded threads with sometimes > 100 pages, to form a well thought out decision, about a heated discussion, when the need of a quick sentence is felt by the Mod(s), pure by lack of precious time.
Sometimes it helps to insert a cool-off period for Mod(s) and Member(s), and peace may be found again, after that. Some Mods offered me that over the years, it always helped to resolve ANY situation. And mutual respect and understanding resulted.

So, for us longtime members, there are much more "deceased" friends here at this board, than remembered by shortertime members.
I for one, feel the same sad loss, as if I had no chance to visit their funeral ceremonials.

Then you don't have to worry anymore, about any difficult possible choises between Kapitalists or Socialists motto's. Problem instantly solved, and most sane people will respect you, for as long as you live.

Seem to have been, and still being, some very good Moderators and Admins in all those past, and recent new times.!
And ofcourse, honour the past owners, and the recent owner(s), who as far as I can see, did, and still do, some damn good job.!

Have some serious re-reading to do, in some precious spare time, if that's still offered to me, by any form of luck or chance.

Do like me, stop smoking long ago, minimize your alcohol intake as soon as can be, eat whole natural foods, so avoid processed foods, avoid stress, so quit at least after the age of 75, those fast, dangerous but so temptating, adventurous lanes in life, and enjoy your last years to the full extent. Especially, don't waste them, on some imaginairy god creature.

Wish you all too, all the best, that life CAN and WILL offer you, when you chose the right paths, after balancing all choises.
Money is definitely not always the right choise...it can lead to endless and unstoppable greed.

RESPECT. I think you knew that already after a few older PM's between us two.

I am the tenacious type, can't help it, despite the fact, that ending a set task is sometimes open to some honest doubt.

Yes, at times I felt utterly sad, when seeing years of work, and so much precious time, put into constructing well thought out member posts, coming to a sudden end.
My advice to them : try to become a nicer person, or write with more decorum, and read the site rules a few times more...
And at last, understand why those rules were implemented...

There are rules of rules and also rules of no-rules.

Cannot say if this website is even worth my time.
