Of course they dont actually care about free speech just as they dont actually care about book banning. The authoritarianism is hidden behind "just think about the kids".

Books with gay sexual content or any sexual content should not be in the hands of elementary school kids UNLESS approved by their parents, not by drag queens or psychotic Leftist teachers.
Nobody is banning them completely, so just stop with the utter nonsense.

Tell yourself whatever you need to tell yourself to justify book banning. Your type always does. "Just think about the kids!".

So you are ok with 5 or 6 year old kids reading about gay sexual content?
You must be.

And it’s not “banning” books as you guys like to hyperventilate about, it’s called keeping them out of the hands of UNDERAGE children.
Plain and simple.

Idgaf what YOUR kids read son. I dont need the government to step in and help me raise mine.

🤣🤣
It’s a common sense issue.
If you don’t have any, that’s your problem.

Authoritarians always justify why they're authoritarian.

That is your opinion? I have no problem with that. But this thread is about this particular issue.

I don't think conservatives are suppressed at all. I think a certain left-leaning zeitgeist exists now and cancel culture that impacts the country.

Conservatives forget. This country is now a SECULAR country. And that in itself brings certain liberal tendencies to the whole country.

Now, unless you want to become a theocracy, then we all have to accept secular values.

Personally, I can agree that the country has gone too far left on crime, and the issue of child protection and certain sexual mores, sure, but I understand we are a secular country.

Well, it's a debate now, isn't it? That's a democracy.

There was no left-wing authority that stopped you was it?

You see, that's human nature. One side goes too far, so the other side brushes back.

A democracy, understanding that humans are imperfect, still tries to balance things and hopes that some level of fairness and justice will prevail.

Are we debating it then? Seems there is nothing to debate as you said you agree with me, but then you seem to disagree with DeSantis to stop it, why?

Agree with you on what?

I think throwing the baby out with e bathwater( dealing with America's historical and still some forms of racism, though as a nation, have made great progress) is what DeSantis is doing with this bill.

On the other hand, anyone blaming our good white citizens for what happened 170 years ago is nuts and makes racial division worse.

There is a balance between the two.

It has to be addressed objectively and without blame.

If professors teach demeaning white people, then that professor should be fired. When we teach about this subject, we should be reminded that the greatest fighter against black slavery was a white man. Who, braver than even Fredrick Douglas, died to free black people from slavery? The great John Brown.

So our youth can see it's really not about race but humanity.

To demonize white people for the racial issue is counterproductive and just historically wrong since most of the abolitionists were actually white people...not to mention Abe Lincoln.

There's nothing in there about what people can or can't say to each other. These laws are designed to protect young children from mature themes. Certain discussions and topics should be kept out of schools. The same way you have age certificates for films.

It's a relevant topic for debate when your students are preparing to embrace their civic duty as employees and voters and leaders, contributing to society and learning to fix it when necessary. That's what high school is for, not elementary facilities, as specified in the "WOKE" directives.

Fine. I agree. But you can shape those laws that can be applied across the board, not just to children.

I would be against teaching young kids about the black-on-black crime issue, such as in Chicago and the many murders of gangsta rappers---around 90- since 1987, which is an issue that I feel is too complex for young minds. And I think slavery and historical racism may be mentioned in passing in kid history books, but they shouldn’t be analyzed or debated by little children.

What age when they can deal with these issues? I do not know and will let the sociologists, educators, and psychologist deal with it.

And I have no problem with confronting these professional educators if parents have gripes.

But I think in high school and college, these topics should be dealt with without restrictions other than blatant political propaganda on either side. Remember, it’s not only the left with propaganda but the right too.

But you have to give teachers leeway, and if they go too far, then you have recourses. With cell phone cameras, you won’t get black panther dogma too far in our schools, believe me.

No ones banning the books, they're still available to the public. We just don't want that # being taught to young children. Have you seen the patriotic books the left is deeming unfit for school children, while allowing the pedophile grooming books to stay??? Just saw an article on that a couple of days ago, ways disgusting. Can't have it both ways like you want. Look to the left if you want to see true fascism and racism.

I do not support banning books from libraries under any context. If you dont want your child reading books that detail 'graphic sexual acts' then get off the couch and be an actual parent. Stop inhaling and complaining about government overreach whilst exhaling and demanding the government ban books from libraries because you dont want to take the responsibility of making sure your child doesnt have access to them (why anyone one would want to prevent their child from reading is beyond my comprehension).

I'd wholly agree if these "graphic sexual" books were part of a required reading and / or course syllabuse - but they aren't. If you dont want your child reading them then step up.

Vanity Fair may sound geeky or too Hollywood for some but it's very topical, sure, not right wing, but goes in-depth on many issues. Have you ever read it?

I read all kinds of sites. Particularly the ones that don't ask for 5 bucks a week, the few that are left.

Who the F is trying to be an authoritarian?
I simply said not letting 6 year old kids have access to pornographic content is just common sense.
If you choose to give that stuff to your kids, that’s on you and that’s the way it should be…a parent’s decision.
It shouldn’t be forced on kids that young by a drag queen teacher.

This goes further up the Judicial food chain, the Judge is going to lose. What the law says is that "State funds" will NOT be used to pay for those programs. It doesn't say that you can't have the programs. There's no First Amendment violation here.

The left has used this crap for years to push their agenda. "Do as we say or we'll shut off your State or Federal funding." The Governor of Pennsylvania used it over COVID funds recently. Several Counties were told to toe the line or else we'll withhold your share of the COVID finding. I believe that the lawsuit from Elk County is still in Court.

Remember this. The Left calls the US Constitution "antiquated" or outdated, until it is of use to push THEIR agenda.

Children's libraries, which are located in schools are no place for books with graphic sexual material. I don't set the curriculum nor purchase the books.

The rest of your diatribe is totally unjustified and i'm amazed it hasn't been removed.

A simple yes, you think it's ok for this material to be easily accessible by children would suffice rather than the personal attacks.

How do you suggest i "step up"? These books aren't available at my kids school, probably because i'm a responsible parent who sends his child to a private school. Questioning my parenting skill because i don't want my child having access to graphic sexual material, oh the irony.

Control yourself, this isn't the place for a meltdown.

Apologies if you thought it was a personal attack, it was a generalization towards those that would rather the state remove books from a library over taking an active part in parenting.

Books contained within a library are not part of any curriculum nor syllabus (unless they are required readings or course related text books). If you feel like the library contains content that you dont want your child exposed to then address that with your child.

A local school here (Texas) just banned a Stephen Hawking book from the school library. Any reason we want to justify why restricting what who can read WILL come back to bite everybody in the ass.
