Thank you, as well, for not reading the OP and instead repeating the counter points to EV that I already wrote in the OP.

I think you are misinterpreting the pushback on EVs. They are the future, they will be what we move on to. However - the tech, infrastructure and material isn’t there yet, this is the reason people are upset. When you start trying to force/mandate something that is 100% untenable/not achievable, there’s going to be some pushback and rightly so.

Also - think of everything that goes into building an EV, aside from an ICE vehicle, it’s not as simple as your making it out to be.

Nope. I specifically brought examples in my OP. I was not even going down the lane of mandates.

The problem is the batteries simply are not safe. Lead Acid batteries won't work really as they are too heavy.

I don't know the full answer to this as I never heard about saltwater making batteries explode. But I think you mean because of salinity as in, making the water more conductive and thus shorting out the terminals?

If it's about that, the terminals are sealed. At least on mine. Keep in mind there are a couple more EV's than Tesla who are known to have trouble with this.

Then in winter, don't know if it's a thing at your place, the streets get salted for deicing. Manufacturers have to account for this too.

Basically and that's also adressed at ChaoticOrder, when any car get's flooded, you have to worry about a lot of other things. Almost all the time it's totaled. Yes one could disassemble a flood car and people do it, it depends on the type and durance of flooding.

If I could not answer your question to the origin you asked it, please detail your question, what do you think sea water will damage more than normal (dirty flood) water? Flood water is conductive too, as soon as you get minerals and particles in it, it will become conductive.

Since older car chassis are not tinned / protected by sending the whole chassis through a zinc bath and coat it. Older cars will rust away in no time once sea water get's into the chassis.

Fuel is not safe either.

You seem to forget the technology (what I wrote already countless times) is young but it's getting there.

Well for one big concern on safety you simply can get the fuel tank wet and drive thru salt loaded roads in the rain or snow without fear at all...

That a EV car battery cannot do this, is just too much to overcome.

I am an Environmental Scientist from MTSU where our school made a car that runs on Water by separating the H2 and O2 from the H2O.... Are you actually paying attention if you don't know that Hydrogen is very usable if you do it on demand using a small lead acid battery and a solar panel to charge the battery.

It can, I drove through winter the last two years and like I wrote the car is built for it.

Have you actually paid attention to my post about Hyundai?

I read the entirety of the OP. I pointed out the bias of your post. EV is not sustainable. It's also dangerous. We just saw from FL that EVs don't handle water well. What happens when you get into an accident on a rainy day? Rhetorical. Break the casing on your battery and you get an explosion, is what you get. I get that you think they're neat, and I do too. But not sustainable. So why waste time trying to make a novelty item mainstream?

You're entitled to your opinion and I literally wrote they are not sustainable. So it appears to me you should read my OP again, without your bias. And then you go to the reply I made to CriticalStinker about Hyundai.

I really don't care if you think I am biased, because I know I am not and it's just the impression you get from reading jus the OP and now knowing what else I wrote over time. I even get most of my income from ICE engines and the car around them.

Then come back and tell me I am biased towards EV lol.

So why waste time trying to make a novelty item mainstream?

Because of what I wrote in the OP and during the conversations in the thread. I suggest you read the whole thread but I condense it down for you: So we have mastered the electrification for when we are allowed to have a direct energy source and can forget about the batteries plus the discussions about charging and range all together.

You just don't build any technology from scratch to best in one go. There's milestones to master and as it is, military or public interest to buy (for money) are the two biggest driving forces for any development.

You still in the area? Want to talk science over a few beers at Liquid Smoke or Wallstreet?
