Alexander Lukashenko, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, has said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the blockade on the transit of some goods to Kaliningrad is "akin to a declaration of war".

Nothing burger or start to WW3?

I just don’t know enough about the situation, but I do know it’s not smart to poke a bear.

Seems like they are intentionally provoking.

Time will tell.

Russia invaded its neighbor this situation is due to that and the sanctions imposed because of it , Lithuania is a NATO member and bound by treaty to apply those sanctions.

Putin is starting to sound as pathetic as Kim Jong-un , complaining about issues he's created and issuing hollow threats because of it.

Meanwhile Russia is facing default on the interest payments for its debt again.

In this case, Lithuania is enforcing EU sanctions; NATO has nothing to do with this other than Lithuania's membership in the organization.

Lukashenko should keep a low profile. He is already thoroughly disliked by the EU for the manufactured refugee crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border.

Cheers

Which is unprecedented because it was entirely engineered by the West and is a gross display of how completely fake our global financial system is. It's like a bank refusing your payment then foreclosing on your home. There's no shortage of funds. This is pure show at the expense of taxpayers. It's also going to have long term consequences because it's going to push countries to use BRICS payment rails and BRICS central bank currency for international settlement, which may even be gold pegged. The sanctions already made that speculation into reality. It's now a done deal. How bad? We'll see, but there's no upside.

It's going to make an already terrible economic climate worse while they continue to hemorrhage tax money sending weapons into a black hole of fail in Ukraine. There was no reason for this to become the worst economic crash in human history, but what do they care? It's not like Western elites will go without. Hell, war and COVID are both good for them. It's not like Putin will suffer or Russian Oligarchs either.

No, we will. We'll suffer.

None of you seem to understand the consequences of what's happening right now. I can guarantee you there is nothing in the whole of Ukraine that's ever going to be worth what this costs us. All for show because the sanctions haven't worked.

But Putin, right? But Putin isn't continuing ineffective sanctions that are harming his citizens, our leaders are. It's having no positive impact and is coming at great expense.

Good old Lithuania. Russia won't dare attack a Nato country.

At this point it's a sad fact that since the Russia invasion started and up to the beginning of June, Germany has contributed £13 billion to Russia's war effort, the Netherlands have given £7 billion, Italy £6 billion etc...

EU sanctions have managed to avoid the flow of £££ from the rich EU nations to Russia. Well done Germany, your support for Ukraine is magnificent.

Putin was arming Kaliningrad before the Ukraine invasion. It’s almost as if it was pre-planned. I wouldn’t be surprised if the plan is for Belarus to faint a move into Lithuania drawing NATO into the conflict away from the hot zone.

It isn't unprecedented because Russia defaulted in 1998 after Russian currency markets collapsed due to devaluation of the Ruble.

It's not like Putin will suffer or Russian Oligarchs either.

Not true , Russian Oligarchs are suffering due to the sanctions and their suffering is a problem for Putin as they too have power.

None of you seem to understand the consequences of what's happening right now.

We all understand the consequences to varying degrees but some of us understand that the consequences are due to the man who launched the world into crisis and is threatening the world with Nuclear war , we are willing to experience some pain to help combat the aggression of that man , others seem to prefer to cry like babies at the thought of taking a little pain to combat a fascist dictatorship .... just as well for us the people of the last century were made of stronger stuff or we'd all be living in a different world right now.

A Belarus distraction would not last for more than couple of days.
Sure Putin would use them as cannon fodder instead of ethnic Russian Moscow boys
just like he's using Donbas dumbasses armed with Mosin guns. And Chechens. Yeah, the Chechens 😀

too sparse info on whats being allowed to go to Kaliningrad (with Baltic ports)..

surely Russian weaponry or ammo would not be permitted to transit Nato treaty nations like Lithuania nor Poland
likely consumer goods are freight that would be permitted to pass through nonRussian territory

see map of isolated Kaliningrad, lithuania/poland here:
www.bing.com... lt=43&FORM=ANNTA1&PC=EDGEDB

act-of-war my foot.... lithuania & poland have ler the russians & belarus transport products through their lands & territory/soverign territory, for a significant period of time

Nobody mentions that the people in the Donbas are Ukrainians. Being killed by their own government for the last 8 years. Just because they happen to have Russian heritage.

NATO is trying to draw Russia into attacking a member country.

It is a gamble that it will remain conventional if it happens. It is a bad gamble.

I don't think the risk of what this can escalate to is worth it.

Russia could raise the stakes. It is just a thought, but what if they loaded a nuke on a train with the goods they want to transport and made public that any attempt to confiscate or stop the train the soldiers guarding the train (they would have to be suicidal) had orders to detonate it it before allowing it to fall into someone else's hands.

Would Lithuania risk trying to stop it?

That is just me spitballing but there are just so many ways this can escalate to point of no turning back.

Reading through the sanctions you can tell they were specifically targeted at cutting off Kaliningrad.

By doing this I think they justified Russia's takeover of Crimea which was certainly due to the fear that the puppet government in Ukraine emplaced by the US was going to cut off the flow of goods to the Port of Sevastopol.

The entire premise of this being about freedom or democracy in Ukraine is total BS they feed to idiots that they spent years conditioning through media to hate Russia.

That has been mentioned and stated many, many times but the MSM NPCs claim it is a lie.

Thankfully there are such peoples willing to stand up to the dictators, sacrifice their lives, to ensure freedom from the yoke of tyranny. These peoples come from all walk of life. I for one thank them all.

Lithuania was going to blockade Kaliningrad anyway considering how hostile Lithuania is to Russia so this is expected. For now Kaliningrad is supplied by ship from Saint Petersburg.
