Election day in France today and Emmanuel Macron has been declared the winner by a substantial margin , Macron secured 58.2% of the vote to Marine Le Pen's 41.8%.

European Council President Charles Michel, as well as the prime ministers of Belgium and Luxembourg, were among the first European leaders to congratulate Mr Macron.

"Bravo Emmanuel," Mr Michel wrote on Twitter.

"In this turbulent period, we need a solid Europe and a France totally committed to a more sovereign and more strategic European Union."

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: "Congratulations to @EmmanuelMacron on your re-election as President of France.

"France is one of our closest and most important allies. I look forward to continuing to work together on the issues which matter most to our two countries and to the world."

If they would have used Dominion voting machines, Biden would have won.

That being said, "C'est la vie".

The French must really like Muslims burning down their country one church at a time.

The breakdown of voting would be interesting to see, urban vs country areas.

You don’t think it’s all fixed then? I don’t know if they do that system we have in the U.K. but it doesn’t matter at this point as we head into a global fascist corporate dictatorship.

Well the majority seem not to like far right bigots.

Maybe you shouldn't go there.

Another national election with yet again two appalling candidates.

Seems to be quite the recurring trend nowadays.

As with every other country it comes down to a choice between which side of the same arse cheek. Either way the people get shat on or shafted.

I get Macron making it to the second round of voting. He's the sitting President. But why would the people of France go back to the Le Pen well again after she got absolutely trounced in 2017?

I guess she at least had a better showing this time.
