Kevin Hart Reality Check Tour Will Be a Phone Free Experience

I was reading up on events this year in Tampa and noticed Kevin Hart is coming to Amelie Aren September 15. This fella really cracks me up and he seems down to earth enough. Something new popped out to me though I was not familiar with until just now. They will not permit phones to be used during the event. The only place I ever saw that policy enforced was at an adult encounters/swingers venue. So seeing this at a comedy tour was an interesting revelation.

This event will be a phone-free experience. Use of phones will not be permitted in the performance space.

Upon arrival at the venue, phones will be secured in individual Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Guests will always maintain possession of their devices and can access them throughout the event only in designated Phone Use Areas within the venue. All devices will be re-secured in Yondr pouches before returning to the performance space.

Anyone seen using a device during the performance will be escorted out of the venue by security. We appreciate your cooperation in creating a phone-free experience.

So, is this a new thing, has it been happening for a couple years and I was not aware?? I mean I got no problem with it, i rarely even travel with a phone. What about smart watches, i suspect those will also be checked into the bags. I can tell you that anyone considering it will be unable to sneak their device in undetected. Most venues in Tampa Florida/Hillsborough County requires passing the through metal detectors. The zoo, adventure island water park, State fair, bush gardens theme park. I think even the aquarium does as well now.

Like I said though, i don't often carry mine. It's more of a home phone. It will be funny seeing so much antsy people doing the junkie dance peeking at their bags, listening to hear if they get an alert. I wonder if that will be the point?? To force people to realise how unhealthy their dependency to a mobile device has become that many folks will be constantly shuffling in and out back and forth just to check .... Whatever the hell they feel compelled to check. I intend on going as an observation on human behaviour in this interesting dynamic.

Of course i plan on enjoying the show as well though and am a fan of Mr. Hart.

This thought is nothing new. I have had it many times over the years, but every time this happens, the thought still keeps coming back to me....

Yesterday, before the Super Bowl, I noticed there were many many people holding up their phones recording the players first entering the field. Don't they know that it is already being recorded, in much higher quality, from much better angles, and with much better audio?

I just don't understand why people can't simply live in the moment. It's right in front of you. Just watch it. You don't have to stare at your phone.

This has been used in schools. The following link to Amazon is a magnetic stud finder you can attach to your key chain or simply stick in your pocket/purse. I wouldn't carry it in the same pocket as your phone though, as it is magnetic and thus can damage computer devices like SD cards and screens...

But, it is inconspicuous and small and easily opens yondr bags.

I wonder what would happen if you damaged the bag. For example, if you just took a knife and sliced it open. At the very least, I assume you would have to pay for the damaged bag, but would that be all? Might there also be an additional fine/fee involved. Possibly even considered 'destruction of private property'.....

Sneaking a knife into a school, arena, or nightclub that prohibits weapons is difficult and a felony in most states. So attorney fees would dwarf any potential fee to replace a $2 yondr bag...

As far as I am aware, no state has outlawed magnetic stud finders as of yet.

Cant make tweets, memes, and other social media crap without those in-the-moment pictures. I know women I didn't speak 2 sentences to 40 years ago in the real world but on Facebook, I now know what they have for breakfast, where they go out for an evening. etc etc

It's the only way many people communicate, well those with limited attention spans. Part of me believes it's the only way most get their news and info as well. We see it here on ATS all the time a well-thought-out post sourced and linked is rarely as popular or even commented on but those with a good meme or concise tweet or blurb seem to get more views.

It's funny I can text my daughters and they will occasionally respond immediately, but if I text them a good tweet or meme a lot of the time they comment back immediately.

I like to think some of it is the mansplaining aspect, whereas it used to be just when a man talked a bit condescendingly, now any direct communication has that aspect regardless of sex. You had better be on point with the topic or a certain segment of the GP will tune you out and miss your point.

It's why scroll bars at the bottom of the screen is so effective it hammers home those quick bits of information over and over again to finally be retained by some.

The tool used is irrelevant. Rip it open with fingernail clippers.

I was just wondering what the penalty might be for doing such a thing. Many people would probably see it well worth it if it would only cost them a couple dollars.

At last, a sensible mindset to give people a break form their addiction.

I'm sure the Narcissists will struggle and the self entitled Karens will be out in force though.

Not really new. Saw Louie around 2012 or 13 and he did the same thing.

My buddy went to 5 concerts plus Steely Dan or just Dan and some people filling in for the rest of the set.

Since I kept telling him to put the phone down and enjoy the show. He did....
But recorded the entire Paul McCartney, Kiss, Chicago.

He claims if they didn't want them to record it they'd ask him. And the fact the bands recorded could drop dead any second and he has perhaps the last documented show.


Edit: there are a couple that he did upload to YT.... the algorithm to detect words and instrumental music notes has not dinged him yet.

Then again he's got nobody following him so they don't care to cash in yet.

I goto regualr to big comedian gigs in the UK, Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle, Ricky Gervais and have also seen Chris Rock

The only time phones were not permitted....Chris Rock at the Manchester Arena, I thought it might be because of the bomb but no, as my wife and I went to the same arena in Jan to see Strictly Come Dancing and phones were allowed, so it would seem its an American thing even when they tour the UK

He was one of the first to get (partially) cancelled. I'm not gonna bother looking it up, but I'm pretty sure it was the Grammy Awards. He was supposed to host, but had tweeted a gay joke 10 years earlier, which then made it the first time that Award show went on without a host, because he wouldn't apologize. (or maybe because he wouldn't continue repeatedly apologizing)
