By any chance, could there be a volcano there ready to blow its top?

Yes, that is a theory being proposed on the news out here

Eta the Cascades are full of volcanic peaks

My son sent me a text a little while back saying it was up to I think 55 earthquakes now.

Yes, I just got home from oral surgery (ugh) and the wife showed me 2 pages of quakes mostly in the high 4s and 5s. I haven’t seen that kind of activity here ever since I first moved out here in 1998

I was just looking at the US earthquake map and saw 3 quakes today in 3.0 range in White’s City NM, thats near the Carlsbad Caverns system. Growing up in southern NM, thats pretty much unheard of. And there was a 4+ in Kansas of all places.

Weird. Hold onto your hats, this might be getting bumpy? Just what we need.

Of course now the news is saying it’s a super active fault and doesn’t pose any concerns…
That is when I pay closer attention 😉

There are underwater volcanos all along the coast and some have been going for years now.

Looks like it could be around this one
April 29, 2015
PMEL and Oregon State University(OSU)/CIMRS scientist Bill Chadwick and Scott Nooner at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) have successfully forecast the latest eruption of Axial Seamount, an active submarine volcano located about 300 miles off the coast of Oregon. Based on a swarm of earthquakes and large vertical movements of the seafloor, the eruption started on April 24, 2015.

Yet another one who speaks about probable earthquake, and he also is known to be quite accurate.

Maybe it’s time to keep an eye on things.

Come across this in Twitter, if Oregon is on West Coast would the earthquakes be related to the ring of fire?

Everything on the coasts are involved with the hot areas of the Ring

Would take a pretty large eruption to emerge from those depths, so I sincerely hope not in this case.

Yes, 4s and 5s some lower too, but it’s certainly the highest level of activity I’m aware of, compared to 600 in 10 days…303 in less than 1 seems significant to me.

Well, the volcano in Indonesia did blow its top good... maybe it was good enough to destabilize the plates?
I don't know.. Hawaii had a decent sized earthquake either before or soon after this swarm started also.

I guess we could hope the earthquakes move a little closer to shore, and THEN sprout the island.

That could be cool.

The current earthquakes aren't very far from shallow water, which is also the reason I worry that a tsunami warning wouldn't provide sufficient warning in this case.

The earthquakes appear to be located about midway up a VERY steep and deep/tall seabed cliff.

I have a thing about islands and the west coast of the country. Having one pop up would support my childhood delusions.
