Just went outside to check the sunrise. Windows in the truck are all covered over with ice. Current temp is 26 F.

'Winter is comin''

In the TV series GOT, the saying "Winter is coming", even though a seasonal eventuality, really served more as a metaphor. It was a metaphor of 'hard times ahead'.

As the winter of 2021/22 is fast approaching, allow me to be the first to say..."Good luck and God's speed to all of us!". I fear the "Winter of 2021" will be something we will see in the history books for a very long time to come.

Remember..."A Lion doesn't concern himself with the opinions of a Sheep."...and,

"When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die."

Winter is coming.

Put a shirt on, then it will be less nippley. Well, 2 less nipples anyway.

I’m in the North.
Northern Canada to be exact.

We have broken our old record for frost free days - which was 139 days on Oct 8.
It was about 25 C here yesterday.
And supposed to continue in the double digits until Sunday.
Peoples tomatoes and cucumbers are still growing in gardens.
It’s wonderful getting to experience more than 2 seasons - warm and Freezing cold.

Usually there’s snow on the ground by now

It isn't too cold here on the East Side yet, but you are right, winter is coming. I fear that it will be a very hard time for those that aren't in charge... our leaders won't suffer of course.

the cherry tomatoes are hybrid and can still bear fruit up to November in some cases out doors.

The old-timers all agree this will become a Winter to remember with huge coastal storms including Blizzards with big snows.
They also say when Winter fastens it’s grip here in the Nor’east there will be savage cold drawn in as the storms leave and crush the Canadian Maritimes….

These old boys are rarely wrong.
Do you folks look for Elders Weather Wisdom in your neck of the woods FCD?

I am not familiar with it.

Is it some sort of publication?

The Dark Winter is here...

I had a dream about a month ago that I needed to stock up with supplies.
I have done just that... if anyone is from UK here and find themselves short over the winter
feel free to private message me.

winter here is usually nice. The past couple years (about 3 ago I think) we had those "polar votex" things, that made it unbearably cold here. If pipes freeze, it's way too cold in eastern NC. last two winters were spectacular. So with the 3 year cycle I've come to expect, we may be coming into another yuk snap.

It's going to be a very unseasonable 80* here on Friday so we're all heading into the city for drinks and to enjoy the warm weather.

you may want to check the local hardware store and see if they have a sale on roof shovels. I hear they are the "in" thing in your area.

No, I mean do folks in your area look to the local elders for weather wisdom?
If so are they known to be mostly correct in the opinions of what winters will be like?
I can understand the confusion with the way I worded it, sorry!
Anyway, I hope this winter will not be as nearly bad here as they suggest.
Also, is having ice on your cars in mid October normal?
Do you think you are in for an extra hard winter this year?
I looked ay the Farmers Almanac and there words seem rather vague to me.

Nice OP…….
Cheers!!

I got a couple, one to bonk the heads of people passing through on their way to Maine and the other to dig the hole for their forever sleep.

Don't worry, it will be cold enough soon and the internet is saying I'm going to get Polar Vortex'd.

A pleasant 73 degrees , low humidity, high today 85, tonight 67. By the weekend cold front moves in with a expected high of 75, overnight low Sat/ Sun 53. Next week it's back up to high 70's / low 80's during the day, high 50's, low 60's overnight.

One thing that does give me concern, more than usual acorns are falling and squirrels are just chewing the hell out of green pine cones.

Older folks than me in Fl say that when that happens it's gonna put chilly bumps on your a@@. Last time that happened was between five to ten years ago, got down in the 30's stayed there and froze several times.

Farmers Almanac has pretty much "vagued" themselves into oblivion anymore.

Yeah, I talk to the elders in the area, but we mostly compare notes. Heh, I guess I'm one of those 'elders' now...as much as I hate to say it.

Prediction:

Really late wheat harvest this year (over 1 month late, and some still getting cut). Some yields were way down, and others were way up (strange). Cows stayed coated up well into late June / early July this year. No millers. A lot of guys planting winter wheat now (a little early). Maybe this is to get it up by late May over early-mid June. Normal harvest is in mid-late June.

I'd say we're looking at real cold early this year. Average moisture. Moisture is hard to predict right now.
