In general chit chat as its not worthy of a rant (yet.)

"For now it's child abuse material but the tech has mission creep written in.
Apple is about to announce a new technology for scanning individual users'
iPhones for banned content. While it will be billed as a tool for detecting
child abuse imagery, its potential for misuse is vast based on details
entering the public domain."

No mention of an opt-in option?!?!

Happily the only i(spy) device is the works phone that I use to scan serialnumbers and take pictures
of badly patched comms cabs. Some might label that geek pr0n but hey.

Full story from ElReg below ....

TheRegister.co.uk Apple is about to start scannig user's content.

Added Auntie BEEB's take ....

on one hand i agree in theory this sounds like a noble and justified reason..

but there is a MAJOR difference between sounds like and real world effects, unintended consequences, and ease of abuse

there is absolutely no safeguard or even appearance of one to prevent it being abused.

for example (and listed in the article)..
what if china that is run by a dictatorship / communist system that has not even a pretense of requiring a court order tells apple they want to scan their devices using a standard that labels people as "radicals".
are they gonna on their own say "no" or just give in to maintain their share of the china market ?

if you say they would stand their ground... BZZZZZZZZZZZ wrong answer , thank you for playing.

hell thanks to snowden we found out that ALL the cell phone companies WITHOUT EVEN AN ATTEMPT at court challenge voluntarily let the NSA mass collect data from cell phones (calls, text, emails, ect) communication.

once this without court specific order (aka XX person we have probable cause is dealing in child porn, here is our proof ) for a specific person is allowed to be done there is no stopping any "justification" for such a search

what about if they want to search for who has gun pictures so we can see if they might have illegal guns and/or who might when we ban (ex) assault rifles..

what about if you dont agree with LBGQ(whatever) and search for those engaged in "hate speech" against them

OR ANYTHING ANYONE IN POWER WANTS TO LOOK FOR FOR ANY REASON THEY CHOOSE TO USE IT FOR

or as also stated in the article they want to set you up so someone sends you a text with illegal child pictures on it..
you didnt request it, you immediately erased it, but OPPS you already triggered the program now you have police knocking on your door and arresting you..
remember evening having one can get you charged and you know how that goes.

but what no one is talking about is this tech had to have existed AND BEEN ON YOUR DEVICE without your knowledge for quite a long time to be as perfected and ON ALL APPLE DEVICES (not just latest models).

the ultimate spyware.

we already know they now can track you and listen to you even if your phone is turned off as long as the battery is still in it (ironically most phones you cannot remove it) and doesnt matter if android or apple..

what else is on our devices we dont know about..

if we aint already in the 1984 book situation it isnt gonna be very long now

Apple have been scamming iPhone users for quite some time.

oh....scanning?

It's always the peeds and terrorists they claim to be after as they snoop and spy on everyone.

If there was some evidence that thousands of those people had been arrested and dealt with it wouldn't be so bad but we don't seem to ever see any positive results, do we.?

sadly your landline is probably already "tapped" due to going though computer switchboard.

as for old flip phones and android phones.

i suspect they have that capability too... just not mentioned ... yet..

hell snowden already showed us they have been using a program (with consent or at least no resistance from all cell carriers) to collect all your cell phone data (calls, texts, ect) , store it and scan it at their choosing

if we aint in 1984 i can see it from here

I don't trust Apple to not install porn on phones and claim child porn. They can go to hell early as far as I am concerned. Idiots are going to want to cheat they can't resist cheating to get their way. They are part of the criminal Cabal at this point.

Privacy is noble.
Fighting child abuse is noble.

“We’ll be scanning your personal device to make sure you’re not carrying anything illegal” is NOT noble!!

That is a concern.

I wonder....can they also remotely remove things if one of their own come under scrutiny? Probably.

The strange thing about this is that I've recently heard that there's been a few cops here who are caught with......erm...."research" material on their devices and get little more than a slapped wrist and maybe fired.

As I said, if we saw loads of dodgy criminals getting some well deserved justice from all this invasive snoopery it might be more tolerable but it seems like a lot of effort for minimal results.

Privacy laws will prevail but they will still hack in and find some way to use it if they possibly can. You and I are not allowed to have private thoughts without their stamp of approval and they are tightening the knots. Fundamental rights are being abused for the sake of the children but these same people give a pass to child rape by the elite.

A small town nobody idiot rapes and murders a child gets the electric chair. A big wig gets away with it and no arrests in the immediate circle involved in the ring will get them in the news. The Feds send us a token child abuser and call it done while the child sex trafficking ring leaders and John's are still not on the news doing perp walks. They are protecting the elites from their crimes not providing fair justice to society. "Houston we have a problem" with this rules for me but not for thee. We cannot allow the children to be preyed upon by ravenous sex fiends.

There are no privacy laws, you purchase the device with their user agreement and hit 'agree', that's how it works. No one is making you buy an Apple product.

If the scuttlebutt is true, at all... at all...

I wonder if there will be a statistically strange mass migration of "elites" from Apple to Android?

1) My flip phone doesn't have any capability other than phone ,
2) I know I could be tracked , but I really don't care
3) Yes , phone calls have been recorded for a very long time. The only calls I make are to my wife .

dont for a nano second think it isnt on android phones.

just known right now because of the "cult" (yea i went there) of apple
you know you must have the latest iphone , more expensive than android phones, and at times less (or late to the party) features only because of the name...

otherwise why is it i can wait until the store has in stock the android phone i want but people MUST STAND IN LINE in mass to get right now the latest iphone model right when it is released.

but i got off track ...

if androids get to be the in thing phone i suspect you hear about it on them.

until then thinking it is not there yet is like thinking we really have privacy today on the internet.
