I remember years ago there were a couple of science fiction type movies about societies that were dependent on robotics or cybernetics. This sounded great on the surface as you could live hundreds of years and simply swap out any parts of you that wore out.... Until they stopped making the parts that you needed.

In one case a war and global depression meant that parts were so expensive only the wealthy could afford them. In the other case a greedy mega corporation simply decided to stop making them in order to force people to upgrade.

Both movies featured cannibals who would hunt people down for their parts.

What happens when your brain chip is no longer supported by the manufacturer, or they stop providing security updates for your dongle and you catch a computer virus though your output port.

It's bad enough when your phone is considered obsolete, or they remove function from your games console after launch.

Can you imagine what it would be like if they did this to part of your body?

It's possible transhumanism has nothing to do with surveillance or control. Human rights become meaningless if a legal construct can be established that "enhanced' life or manipulation of DNA makes one 'Other than human'. If you have no rights they have a free hand legally to do whatever they want.

That is step 1. Step 2 is to bring a legal framework that restores the rights of trans-humans but critically adds every other form of AI to the same legal category. Thus these various machines, robots, AI systems will also have the same rights allowing them a free hand. This freedom will be the complete undoing of humankind as a biological entity when machines (and God knows what else) are given legal parity.
