Its not a formula.

What i am saying is that you cannot suffer without having awareness. Suffering is being aware of your poor condition. That could be a mind that processes suffering of higher levels like we have (we suffer because we want and cannot have, for example). Or it could be a pain receptor.

Suffering itself is highly subjective.

But when you strike a rock and break a piece of it off...without it being aware that this happened, it does not suffer from it.
