Myanmar coup: More than 40 children killed by military

Don't want to turn this into a bash Biden thread, but damn he has been pretty silent on this. He should have spoken just about this topic somewhere but I haven't seen it?

Hope they are doing something in the background. Myanmar was on the way to becoming a shining example of democracy in Asia, now it's been hijacked by a military junta. Before COVID there was a real effort to educate and train the public as manufacturers wanted to come to Myanmar to produce goods there instead of China. This makes me wonder if Myanmar's military being influenced by China?

Wouldn't be the first time have no doubt they consider them within their sphere of influence, can't have any of those nasty Asian democracies springing up.

At least 43 children have been killed by armed forces in Myanmar since February's military coup, according to rights organization Save the Children.

The group said the South East Asian country was in a "nightmare situation", with the youngest known victim just six years old.

A local monitoring group puts the overall death toll at 536.

Meanwhile, ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been charged with violating the country's official secrets act.

Ms Suu Kyi, along with four of her allies, were charged last week, but the alleged crime - which carries a prison term of up to 14 years - has only now come to light.

The new charge against Ms Suu Kyi is in addition to earlier charges of possessing illegal walkie-talkies, violating Covid-19 restrictions during last year's election campaign, and publishing information that may "cause fear or alarm".

President Joe Biden said the amount of people that have been killed in Myanmar is totally unnecessary. Biden also addressed the U.S. infrastructure and gun control legislation.

Biden probably doesn’t like their smell enough.

Myanmar has been a Chinese Communist client state for a long time. This is the same CIA regime change push you see in Belarus, etc. Not saying Myanmar's junta is defensible, it isn't, it's a dictatorship, but the West's picking out and abusing this one authoritarian country while ignoring convenient abusive allies like Saudi Arabia and so on is hypocrisy in action.

You make no sense what so ever. First are you claiming Russia is trying to take over Myanmar? Belarus is in the midde of enexation by Russia in fact Putin just worked that out about 2 days ago. Next they dont have a dictatorship either this was a military take over. They controlled the country for decades when they lost public support and the elections (was really pushing for their party to win) the military took a major loss in the elections. It was a landslide for the new democratic government. Until they arrested the president and declared martial law anyway.

In other words all you did was show how clueless you are in Asian politics and apparently we can throw Belarus in as well.

Sadly people pass judgements based off their feelings and do not bother to look at the facts. The only election fraud was making it illegal for anyone they arrested to run for office. Want to get rid of a politician arrest then they become in eligible to run for office. They used this to get rid of the people pushing for democratic reforms and amazingly still lost the election.

Yes. But people here lauding their actions when it was already on record that this military would commit any type of atrocities because they already have YEARS of on the record genocidal acts was sickening from the beginning. It just makes me think that many people here would condone and support similar actions here if it meant to keep Trump in power.
