OP: don’t arrange your life around this guy’s fears.
What's with the drama?
And, why are you trying to tell the OP what to do?
Here we go-wear your mask or you'll frighten ordinary people!

And I don't think the masks are really all that effective unless they are of a specific type and fitted properly. Almost no one has that type and if they do, odds are, they aren't wearing them correctly.
That is certainly not helping the effectiveness. But that still doesn't mean I should throw out my mask and not try to do this small thing if it helps someone feel a little safer. Like I said above, I guess it all boils down to whether or not you care about not purposely frightening ordinary, innocent people to make a point. A lot of people don't care. And that's sad.

It's not about frightening people. It's about infecting them.
Masks work. It's why surgeons wear them in surgery. They aren't perfect, but they are a hell of a lot better than nothing.

If I am sick, I'm staying home. I've already done it once for a minor cold.
Thanks to working at home, I can still even work while suffering a minor illness too.
The jury is still out on how infectious you actually are if "asymptomatic" or even if there actually are that many asymptomatic people at all.

Why are we all not obligated to wear level-4 hazmat suits everywhere we go ?
You can wear one if you wish, but they are designed to protect the wearer.

I follow the local health orders here, masks in stores and all that. I don't bitch about it, not the end of the world. I wear n95 at work, the few days a month I work. I am burnt out though, the isolation is far worse than a mask.

COVID is a coronavirus much like its cousins which regularly circulate through the population now as seasonal colds, a couple of the many different minor viruses.
COVID will fade into the background noise of seasonal viruses over time and be just one of many like its cousins. Some people already have partial resistance to it thanks to those other strains.
It will be like the flu -- we'll always have it despite being able to create semi-effective vaccines for it.
