What is the plan now that are new Covid variants loose in America, China, and the UK?

The vaccines they'll be distributing out into the summer aren't going to protect against this new mutation. You can't get everyone in the world to wear masks and take vaccines, so more mutations after this are inevitable.

Are we going to stay shut down and masked up, even after our vaccines?

What is the plan here? We can't shutdown every time a new variant pops up for the rest of our lives.

The masks will never come off until we decide to just take them off.
I've yet to put one on (except for one time, and I felt so fake that I immediately removed it.

If it spreads around way faster, they give half a vaccine...

I’ve also heard it suggested to mix the vaccines if they end up giving both doses. Only 2 are of the mRNA type.....

Well, China's economy has grown by 4.3% last year. Of course there are still 30 million people unemployed there also. I can't find the link, but it was on TV here overseas.

That's not what they've reported, the narrative has been that the existing vaccines will be effective with the new strain.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — News of the COVID-19 variant strain first found in the UK and now in the US is concerning but health officials said it doesn’t seem to be any more serious for those who get it.

Oregon State Health Officer Dr. Dean Sidelinger said anytime a virus mutates scientists are concerned. But viruses do this all the time. And even though this strain may be more contagious, it seems the new vaccines will still protect people effectively.

People are “not more likely to be hospitalized or die if it transmits that much more easily,” Sidelinger said. And now many more people get infected, ultimately more people are going to be hospitalized. So I think the same measures that help us control the strain that we’ve been dealing with — keeping our gathering size down, limiting our or keeping our physical distance from others and wearing our masks will help control this other virus as well.”

With the fluidity of travel, Sidelinger said he’s not surprised this strain is now in the United States.

The good news is that scientific research so far indicates the COVID vaccines that are already approved will still protect people from this strain. Social distancing tools still work, too.

Hopefully he's right.

It is not new, they had to kill minks because of this strain months ago.

It is just more contagious, they say. Not more deadly. So most people still have better than a 99% chance that they will survive, if they catch it. Why should anyone shut anything down.

Anyone that has odds that are not very good or are skert of the virus, should stay home.

The two vaccines in the US right now are both mRNA vaccines that create antibodies to the “spike proteins” on the virus. If the viruses mutate to the point that they no longer have spike proteins, then they can no longer get into human cells. The scientists who designed the vaccine took into account the likelihood of mutation, so they designed a vaccine that would work even when mutations occur.

No the point of the vaccines was to make Pfizer et al. billions of dollars liability free, which it has. This year they'll manage to come up with another one fast

'Due to advancements made during the covid-19 Classic™ pandemic.' And Pfizer, moderna, probably some new comers by then, can make billions more dollars, liability free.

Now they've cornered the, 'mass panic vaccine market' they're not going to let that # go. Just think, that's an annual guaranteed payout of billions and billions of dollars.
