Frivolous gym "exchanges" or stealing?

Since I've been going to gym again I've noticed this strange new "morality" (or lack there-of) I've developed.

I'm not talking stealing, or going through other guys' lockers, and if I found expensive items like a phone, key or glasses I'd definitely hand it in at reception.

But I found a quarter bottle of shower gel, and slipped it into my bag.
"Sinner!", said the angel in my left ear.
"Nope", relies the angel in my right ear, that's your due reward for the water bottle you once lost here.
[By the way, it was really good soap, and sorted me for about a month.]

So today I saw this Jockey underpants some dude had forgotten.
I was all alone, so I poked it with my finger, and it was all wet.
I thought, either this guy really sweats a lot, or he's one of those poor dudes who feel they have to wear shower shorts.
The clock is ticking - two minutes before lights out.
So I stuck it in my bag, and figured if I throw it in the wash it's as good as new (and they were new, nothing with holes or anything).

Look, if I hand it in at reception, what are the two ladies there going to with it?
"Cheers ladies - oh, by the way, I found this in the locker-room".
I bet you I might as well have handed them a noxious jellyfish!

Although they do have a lost and found, the policy is actually anything left in the locker-room overnight will be donated to charity.

I also doubt this guy is going to come back the next day and ask for his wet lingerie.
Maybe I saved those underpants from a worse fate?

Is it wrong to steal?
Well technically yeah, but I'm also discovering new products, and since I also lose some, I view it more as a "karmic" exchange.

But legally, say if the po-po had nothing better to do than find lost underwear, and they looked in my bag - oh how embarrassing.

Oh wow...

I was expecting to read where you had picked up a forgotten hydroflask or something. Wet underwear. That's a new one. You usually only hear about stuff like that in the tabloids.

Good for you though. Good for you.

When some big hulking steroided out guy sees you with his soap and wearing his boxers, then you'll find the true meaning of karma

"Fee fi fo fum ...
Who stole the Jokeys
For my bum?"

Flip now I'm worried.
OK, never wear them to gym.
Gulp.

Reminds me of basic training, you had to buy Viro-locks and chains for your washing on the line.

No, they were "orphans" and abandoned.

I gave them a respectable home.

Well I'm no Mr. Rockefeller who thinks underpants come for free.

Ok...

So....you found a pair of wet underwear on the ground at the gym and decided to take them?

Maybe dude # himself while he was working out, tried to wash it, just couldn't and abandoned them...

You didn't steal, you picked up someone's trash. Guy's underwear's pretty cheap. I personally wouldn't hesitate to abandon a pair if the need really arose.

I won’t even touch other people’s clean underwear. Let alone after some dude sweat his ass of in them.

On the other hand, maybe he pissed his pants and that’s why he discarded them. Even better.

I found a clean thong in our dryer on a cruise once. I'd like to have met the person that wore it.

Yeah, although not quite the floor, about the edge of the wooden bench.
That was before my work-out, and when I came back they were still there.
So for about 40 minutes nobody else bothered or cared - I was their last chance before closing.

If he was smart like me he would have got his mum to sew a name tag in the back.
That way people can just ring up.

I like to decide whether I want them returned or not depending on where they were found and how angry the caller sounds.

That's my typical reaction when i come across discarded undergarments in public places. Well that and avoiding them or the area around them.

Pretty much all you did was 'rescue' the cleaner from having to pick them up and throw them in the garbage.

Thinking back, there was actually a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode with a similar theme, methinks.

Not to do with gyms, but how garments are sometimes wrongfully recycled at a dry-cleaning business.

Almost in the sense that the store and its customers become a "secret society" of sorts.

You don't want to wear another person's shirt for a week?
Don't come to this store.
