Things that make you go "hmmmm". In honor of the 73rd Birthday of the USAF, the AFMC tweeted out a Happy Birthday, and included this picture. This could just be a random rendering, or it could be our first look at the new aircraft.

Is the positioning of the 'Star and Bars' insignia typical? I am speaking of the angle that it is placed on the wing in that rendering.

If you look closely, there is other geometry in there that is being obscured.

I can already see the tell tail signs of it, no doubt you’ve seen it too.

That is what I was hinting at. I think the background bleeding through the image my be done purposefully to confuse things just a bit.

Looks like a crank kite design.

No, it's usually straighter. There are a few details that are off, but they put a lot of little detail in.

There are a number of renderings out there that could be. One thing they all have in common is no vertical fin. That's not surprising considering that's the big area that low frequency radar sees on a fighter sized platform. I think the days of a vertical tail are over.

Great find and I’m glad you caught it before the edit.

It seems the photo has since been snipped or edited in their twitter feed!

Thought that looked a bit familiar.

It probably has nothing to do with this. But it looks similar.

Also reminds me of this. could this be the fighter add on that was supposed to come with the lrsb?

Not the LM LRS entry with the interesting past, but quite probably a very slightly repurposed PCA demo.

Could also be a F/A-XX variant, a reuse of a black F-111 replacement or an upgraded YF-23 successor they were playing around with. I don't believe they went from zero to flight testing in barely two years as the public NGAD funding suggest.
The aircraft most certainly has a past.

Yeah I’m curious about it having a past as well.
