The cameras need to be set to be able to see the bright sunlit moon surface clearly. That's similar to daylight exposure settings on a regular
camera. If you had a regular camera set to daylight exposure settings and tried to take a picture of a starry sky, the picture you would get would
likely show none of those stars you saw with your eyes, except possibly some of the brightest.
If they set the camera to see be able to see the stars in the sky, then the moon would have been an overexposed white blob.
