Sports in Japan

Prime Minister Abe said in this statement, "This is a very important time to end the outbreak of infection early. Many people gather because the last one or two weeks is extremely important for preventing the spread of infection. Considering the risk of transmission of such nationwide sports and cultural events, we will request measures such as suspension, postponement or reduction in size in the next two weeks. "

Italian officials have cut short the Venice Carnival as they try to control what is now the worst outbreak of the coronavirus in Europe.

Authorities in the Veneto region said the event would end later on Sunday, two days earlier than scheduled. . . .

Universities in Milan have been closed and the city's mayor, Giuseppe Sala, said schools would also close their doors while the outbreak continued.

"As a precaution I think that the schools have to be closed in Milan. I will propose to the president of the region to enlarge the precaution to the entire metropolitan city area. It is just a precaution, we don't want to create panic," he said.

Brenner Pass rail service

VIENNA, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Austria suspended train services over the Alps to Italy for about four hours late on Sunday before restarting them after two travellers tested negative for coronavirus.

A train carrying about 300 passengers from Venice, Italy, to Munich in Germany was halted on the Italian side of the Brenner Pass before being allowed to continue its journey after the two tested negative, authorities said.

Well, folks its happening real fast. The Hokkaido , Japan's, prefecture’s education board called for the closure of schools from Thursday until March 4. Hokkaido has about 1,600 public elementary and junior high schools. It will be the first prefecture-wide school closures due to the COVID-19 disease. And my wife is in the teaching part of the economy.

Sumo Championship

When it comes to the world of sumo, maintaining tradition is the most important aspect of it. A key tradition may have to be altered due to the coronavirus that has affected the world.

According to NHK WORLD-JAPAN, March’s Grand Sumo Tournament is in question due to the virus. The Japan Sumo Association is working with senior association official Stablemaster Oguruma in order to find ways to work through everything. The event is scheduled to take place inside the EDION Arena Osaka in Osaka, Japan.

Worries re: the Olympic Games

2020 Olympics Officials 'Extremely Worried' Coronavirus Outbreak May Hamper Games

Organizers of the 2020 Olympic Games are "extremely worried" the ongoing coronavirus outbreak could "pour cold water" on the upcoming games, which take place in Tokyo this July.

Several qualifying events have already been disrupted but Japan's prime minister has said there are no plans to reschedule the global sporting event. There has been no discussion of potentially canceling the games because of the coronavirus, the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games confirmed to Newsweek.

Italy expects a loss of at least 5 billion Euros due to drop in tourist travel as a result of Coronavirus concerns

translation -- "and the latest serious news about the spread of coronavirus in our country have brought the Italian tourism industry to its knees. The most conservative estimates before the spread spoke of a loss of EUR 5 billion, but we are now in a position to no longer even estimate the impact because of the dramatic development that is taking place."

Real for the United States.

It's certainly really for real in parts of the world already.

Aside from the elderly, the short term health impact isn't going to shake things up, but the global economy is already starting to signal the impacts of supply chain disruptions.

Hopefully this is a one and done with no seasonal, or semi yearly mutations like the flu.
