meh. Florida, which is a big gun rights state, hell you can even shoot your gun in your backyard if you want, has a red flag law. You can thank Rick Scott for signing that into law. And it's used almost daily.

So far I haven't heard of any cases where its use hasn't been warranted. Most of the people who've had guns taken away were minors under 18, people with restraining orders, Baker acted or convicted felons who should not poses weapons.

I don't know how Virginia will handle it's red flag law use. But it's been ok in Florida.

Good.

Take gun away from the mentally ill, or people who act irresponsibly.

If you abuse your rights you should loose your rights.

It's perplexing to me why they seem to be lurching around from one boneheaded move to the next recently. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that much of the population *really* dislikes Gov. Northam and the entire state legislature.

No great mystery to it. I’m also a Virginia transplant and still have many friends and family in the state. What we’re witnessing is a small-scale version of what will happen if New York and California are allowed to dictate who’s President. Northern Virginia has gone full scale flaming liberal and is trying to dictate how everybody else outside of about six counties can live. Add to that the NRA being outspent and outmaneuvered to an extraordinary degree in their own backyard and the mystery is completely solved.

Passing harsh laws is a cheap way of getting votes. Voters are to dumb to understand however that enforcing these laws is expensive and almost all these states are in the red financially. It's damn near impossible to enforce them and achieve the quasi results the voters were promised.

So what do they do? Pass more cheap laws for the dummies and get re-elected. At that point, nobody even knows all the laws, not even law enforcement. They finally just say hell with it and avoid crime invested areas altogether. Philly, Chicago, New Orleans, Detroit. There are areas in these cities where police would not be caught dead in unless they well, are caught in them.

At that point people start exiting the state causing more financial stress and despair which leads to more criminal activity and...more stupid laws that don't work.

That's exactly how it seems to me. Well said!

Where I was living - Albemarle County - people tended to violently chafe under this kind of BS.

And forget Greene, Fluvanna & Louisa counties. They'd rather eat dirt than vote for a flaming liberal. Even Charlottesville where I lived which is a pretty progressive place, would *never* go for it.

Remember what happened when "outsiders" tried to have the confederate statues removed from Charlottesville?

It took less than 24 hours for all hell to break loose. I know - I was there.

And we all know what happened after that...

Who decides? and on what evidence? seems so subjective but could possibly set people off in other ways.

I think the main thing is they want people to freak out, so they can say Ah-ha I told you. But if it's done the right way like the protest a few days ago, it makes their arguments have no merit. The left wants you to think every other gun owner is a mass shooter just itching to happen, it's just not the case never has been.

NOT a Liberal NOT a Democrat ETHER . So this law - say a guy MITE just mite be the dude who robbed the Bank down the street and i the prosses shot a Guard and a random person . Now at this point the police think it may be this guy BUT are wating on the bank videos .
Also being this guy is higher up in the town they wont just flat out hold him or arrest him till they know more .
Now UNDER these you think it may be a GOOD idea for this guy to turn in his guns temperately ?
Let me guess You gun totting fanatic . You get pulled over say for speeding and there is a gun sitting in plan View so the COP ask you to let him hold onto it untill he wrights your ticket and sends you on your way .
MY guess is you will grab it wile shouting about your rights to own the gun and saying PERMIT PERMIT i have a permit .
To bad papers are not bullet proof .
Its fairly oves GUN freaks dont have much common Cents lol .
You people are NUT you now want possible threats to well until they shoot up a school full of kids .
The law has nothing to do wit a GUN grab BUT if you may be a threat they will hold onto the guns thanks

I would believe the left better if they weren't so damned hypocritical about this.

One the one hand, they will cite and source individual cases where taking the firearm, in hindsight, would have prevented tragedy.

But on the other hand, they ignore the laws and ICE about illegals and criminals being released and causing more death.

A criminal will never follow the law. . . because they are criminals.

So adding more laws only affects the law-abiding.

Unless it is the desire of the left to just criminalize people enjoying their Constitutional right.

It's a total violation of the second, 4th,5th,6th,7th, 8th,9th,and 14th amendments.

D's in Virginia have gone full blown NAZI, or Commie.

Take your pick.

The good citizens ought to take it to the Supreme Court and put those #'s in their place.

You forgot the Equal Protection clause of the 10th Amendment.

There are people who demonstrate that they are not responsible enough to possess a firearm. Point being they proved their irresponsibility, whether it is ignorance or mental illness.

Middleoftheroad Me Gun graber ? not on your life lol.
On the other hand when a person shows they are not capable of owing one without shooting the town up it may be a good idea to keep guns out of there hands .
Guns and self defense . I need a gun to defend my self against guys who have a Gun oxymoron lol .
So how many criminals have your GUNS stopped ?
What a joke thing is yes You can own guns just like people who LOVE weed can now buy it legal in many places .
THE one and only reason for each thing is because that person LOVES weed - guns .
It has little or nothing to do with crime or hemp .
Now really if you gun nuts would just be honest and say I love guns just because I LOVE GUNS alest then you would be telling the truth .
The odds of stopping a crime in progress are about the same as hitting the lotto
along with The FACT if it ever came to fighting the Government with guns all bets are off win or lose you lose .
We get you like guns heck you love guns and the only way anyone will take your gun is fro your cold dead hands .

Now wile you go play with your gun us grownups will try and find ways to make the world better without killing people .

Maybe we can get some red flag laws for media outlets who demonstrate that they are not responsible enough to report the news honestly and objectively. Screw the First Amendment, these people are dangerous.

Equal protection is the 14th.

10th made people and state synonmous with each other.
