RICHMOND —The Virginia Senate on Wednesday passed a "red flag" law that would allow authorities to temporarily seize the firearm of someone deemed a threat, a measure that was strongly opposed by gun rights advocates who swarmed the streets around the state Capitol on Monday.

Virginia Senate approves "red flag" law allowing temporary seizure of guns

“Each legislator that votes in favor of this bill in my opinion is a traitor to Virginia, a traitor to the Second Amendment and a traitor to our constitutional freedoms,” said Sen. Amanda F. Chase (R-Chesterfield), the gun-toting iconoclast known for her provocative style.

In a surprise move, this was a straight party line vote with every democrat voting for it and every republican voting against it.

Having lived in VA for the past 5 years and only moving back to NY recently, I still have a large soft spot in my heart for the Commonwealth.

It's perplexing to me why they seem to be lurching around from one boneheaded move to the next recently. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that much of the population *really* dislikes Gov. Northam and the entire state legislature.

If so - expect big changes in the next few elections.

It's like the current representatives of a certain party are playing with matches next to a gas pump. It's insanely stupid.

I know! And it's everywhere - National, Regional, Local.

Maybe it's all a diabolical plot by the GOP to make the Dems look asinine?

What else could it be? I seem to be in a state of utter disbelief on a regular basis with regards to how the Dems have been behaving since Trump's election.

You can't make this sh#t up...

I wonder if "gun rights advocates who swarm the streets around the state Capitol" could be deemed a threat and subject to a temporarily seizure of their firearms?

In other words, had this law been in place a few days ago, would we have seen mayhem in the streets if the state tried it?

In my opinion - that's a no-brainer.

But as daft as Northam and the Dems in the legislature seem to be, I hope not even they could be *that* stupid.

But, I have been surprised before on that front...

It’s all about the Democrats destroying the second amendment. Oh yes, they are coming for you guns It simply a matter of time. The only defense is to vote Republican.

Such BS.... where do they get the hubris to think they can trample on everyone's 2nd amendment? This rot is rampant through the democratic party in every state. Frankly I'm surprised they haven't done that here in MA yet...but we have a Republican governor

I lived in new york state for 9 years till I moved back here. I'm sure corrupt cuomo will be the next to do this

S & F by the way! Only way to make change is to keep getting this info out there so people can vote these tools out of office. Vote Republican, libertarian, anything besides Democrat or socialist parties if you still want to keep your rights afforded to us by our great constitution!

The media were asking "Where are the Police?" during the Richmond
protest: they were over with the other armed protesters and I guess
even a few Antifa. This'll be bad for optics...

It's almost impossible to keep from figuring Northam wants the UN
peacebreaking force to come in and help him scrape up some iron.
Keep digging Ralph: you may get the Dems AND the UN ejected for
general principles before the year's end !
Gotta go polish my .436 sizer, it's starting to shave off some brass.

Besides a few metal detecting relics, I don't have a gun but that stupid law upsets me and shouldn't be accepted.

We can temporarily suspend the Constitution.

Really? Can I temporarily suspend the bill of rights?
Is discrimination ok, in short bursts, so long as they're temporary?

Wouldn't it be interesting if residents of states that push this kind of crap against them "temporarily" pulled all their cash out of banks and didn't pay state taxes?

Setup a bitcoin account, have their paychecks deposited into that so no interception and just let em squirm.
Pay the federal, but leave the state hanging on their property and income taxes .

I was reading thru the comments, it seems split, the way I see it, the common wealth brought this upon themselves.

If they took the threat of a Democrat in office seriously enough, they would have mobilized, but they didn't and in there failure, produced a Dem Majority in local Gov thay is steamrolling the entire process. This is the advantaged of Majority, but it doesn't allow for debate, rather, pushing whichever majoritys vision.

Truth is, VA may have been a closet Cali state, let them have their red flags and people will realize what kind of mistake they made, this will motivate voters to respond accordingly.

So guess Dems can no longer say "we aren't coming for your guns". We know they were anyway and they just lied, but now it's fact.

I lived in VA for 5 years from 2014 until this past June - for work purposes.

When I found out they wanted me to move back up north, I decided to go out and buy a handgun. Because, you know - Virginia.

It took literally less than 15 minutes from the time I walked into the pawn shop until the time I walked out with it in a holster on my hip. Gun was $350, nylon holster was $29. VA just does a background check to ensure you have no felony convictions. No felonies = buy whatever handgun you want.

When I knew I was moving back I decided not to tell NY I was coming back here permanently. I just got the forms I needed from NY, filled them out and sent them back. 3 weeks later I was approved to bring my S&W 9mm to NY.

The airport agent in NY looked like he ate a bug when I went to get it after my flight from Charlottesville. It was in a case, but he had that typical "snowflake" face. I just laughed and asked him to please hand me my property.

An NYPD cop that was there also laughed. I offered to show him my paperwork but he just waved me on and said "You're good. Have a good day".

Maybe he was able to tell that my whole family is/was on the NYPD. 3 uncles & 4 cousins (their kids).

My Dad was FDNY - same church - different pew.

The thing is, this is only the first shot. Take the guns then they'll start working on that nasty free speech and so on.

It's a total violation of the second, 4th,5th,6th,7th, 8th,9th,and 14th amendments.

D's in Virginia have gone full blown NAZI, or Commie.

Take your pick.

The good citizens ought to take it to the Supreme Court and put those #'s in their place.
