Trump's move in Syria will hurt him politically with some Evangelicals

You can say with certainty that Evangelicals elected Trump. His Evangelical support has been almost unanimous and has made him untouchable by mainstream establishment Republicans.

Many Evangelicals see Trump like a modern day Cyrus. A flawed individual anointed to do God's work.

This belief that Trump is flawed but anointed is powerful among Evangelicals.

The reason that Trump's decision in Syria might put this support in jeopardy is because for years, when talking about Bible Prophecy, Evangelicals talk about an alliance in the end times between Russia, Iran and Turkey that will occur through a war in Syria. This alliance between Russia, Iran and Turkey will attack Israel in the end times. So the question is why would Trump make this rush decision when we had control of a region with very little cost to us that has such geopolitical importance. Here's some reaction.

Trump abandoning Kurds could cost support of evangelical Christians

www.theguardian.com...

You can look at this in two ways from an Evangelical standpoint, Trump is ushering in both the Good and the Bad when it comes to end times Prophecy. So he's doing good things for Israel while preparing for the inevitable time when Israel will be attacked by a Russian-Iran-Turkey alliance. At the end of the day, the Bible has been very accurate in it's predictions of Politics that will shape future Kingdoms. Here's a video that talks about this.

I don't think you can talk about Trump Politically without talking about this alliance between him and Evangelicals. The reason he beat Cruz throughout the South was because of Evangelicals.

Some of these evangelicals that go on about Revelations and the end of the world are nuts. It is important to be aware of the dangers around, but to go on preaching that the sky is falling and we are all going to die is on a highway to hell. I really do not see how the teachings of Jesus and forgiveness fit in with the doom porn pushed by some of these evangelicals.

Some descisions are based on the right thing to do, not necessarily politically beneficial which usually only becomes apparent after the fact.
The russian, iran, Turkish alignment would happen regardless - birds of a feather etc.

However evangelical faith in jesus word should more than contradict so called prophecy if they dared to point that measuring stick back at themselves.

Idk....

Your dealing with a group of people VERY willing to believe in fairy tales. AND those people thing god sent trump..

Well god trumps pat Robertson lol..Not really because pat robertson is real, but we are doing this from an evangelical POV...

My bet is they keep backing trump even if it means dropping their own preachers..

And, just exactly, where will the "evangelical" vote go, if not to President Trump? Surely not to any of the "train wreck" dims.

I suppose you could argue that some may opt to not vote, but I doubt that would be in overwhelming numbers.

Evangelicals may be a bit "whacky" in their views, when compared to mainstream America, but they are by and large very conservative, and some things they don't want is liberal SCOTUS appointments, expansion of abortion rights, suppression of religious freedom, etc.

They voted Trump in 2016, not because he was one of them, but because the alternative was Hillary. Hillary was right wing compared to this cycle's crop of dims.

One last point I would make, If I'm not mistaken, Evangelical types believe the end times rapture is a foregone conclusion, with the timetable being predetermined by god, not DT.

I guess my opinion is that there is no "there" there, with respect to the supposition that Evangelicals will defect from Trump en masse.

If this is the straw anti Trumpers are grasping at, they may be disappointed.

Not voting is the same as voting for the other guy when your in the minority in the first place.. because there are far less that lean right than lean left.

I guess you missed the part of my post where I said that there wouldn't be a big number who opted not to vote.

I'm not sure how you can put an actual number on left leaners v right leaners. In the first place, the dividing line is not static, and by definition that line is drawn with equal numbers on both sides. Otherwise it is just random line, that has no intrinsic value. I guess you never took any poly-sci courses in college.

I would also point out that centrist/independent types typically have views on both sides of center, depending on the specific issue. They are not usually "single issue" voters, and don't, necessarily give the same "weight" to all issues.

You wanting something to be so, does not change reality.

I don't understand the evangelical investment in Trump. He's never struck me as a religious guy.

The rational pragmatic truth that he's opposed by the tyrannical authoritarian leftists and is actually trying to do the right thing for the American People should be reason enough to support him.

The only way Fundamentalist Christians don't vote for Trump is if he's not on the Ballot.

No it won't, and we had no control of anything.

we had control of a region with very little cost to us

Trump did not give anything up. We had no control of anything.

I am waiting for the day I'm taken out of here. If this falls in the said timeline ok. God is the one in control here. This will come to pass in time. God be with you all.

Highly doubt it.

Who else are we going to vote for?

Hillary or the gaggle of nuts running from the DNC?

Evangelicals would rather have a Democrat...a supporter of late-term baby murders, in the White House?

I think not!

This time next year, Syria will be the last thing on any of our minds.

What was the huge "Trump damning" thing this time last year?

If you look at the US advisor pullout from northern Syria from the Israeli perspective, it isn't really as bad as the hype would lead one to believe.

Sure, US personnel are pulled from the north of Syria, but have been relocated elsewhere in the middle east, many not to far away in eastern Syria, and others (?) to Saudi Arabia.

This really is not an abandonment of Israel. Further, didn't Mr. Trump recognize Israel's recent annexation of the Golan Heights? I seem to recall that he did ... which is definitely going to bolster the military position of Israel in the region (though technically, Israel has occupied the Golan for decades now anyway, Mr. Trump just recognized it as 'permanent').

I don't think this issue will sway Evangelicals one way or the other.

I think those people are just about as sick of foreign interventionist policies as anyone else in the country, especially as most of them have since realized that their support of the Iraq War was a mistake. No, I don't think this move will hurt Trump at all with the voting public, though it may cause him some problems with a few members of the GOP Congress.

It blows my mind that people brag about trumps major benefits being that “he pisses off the leftists..”

That is so obviously childish and stupid, why would anyone brag about such a thing!!!

The really messed up part is I honestly think that is the primary voting concern for most of trumps base.. Which just speaks loads for their cognitive abilities lol...

Hilariously I will not be surprised if I am asked to explain why backing someone ONLY because they piss off your enemies is just stupid on 1,000 different levels.

A) trump hired and put a who’s who of the architects of the Iraq war in charge of the military.. so though trump has definitely questioned the validity of Iraq, he then went and put all of the Iraq war crowd back in charge of the military..

I mean it is a stretch imho to think trumps comments beat his appointments..

B) “the left” is only pissed about him bouncing on the Kurds and announcing on twitter instead of telling the military..

Those pretending like the left want invasions now instead of republicans is just more goal post shifting..

The left says they are mad about abandoning the Kurds..

The gop rebuttal, “they want endless wars!!” When the gop has hard core been the hawk party for decades..

And they do that on every issue...

Kapernick kneeled to protest police brutality and accountability..

The gop rebuttal??
“ THEY HATE THE MILITARY!!”

No one said a word about the military.. conservative media just hyped up the sheeple..

Pick any issue and the conservatives WILL NOT be debating the proposal.. they will be debating some laughable slippery slope no one is pushing..
