The previous pediatricians office used to ask my children if there were guns in the home, and whether we gave the kids raw milk ( legal in that place, but frowned on by AMA.)

Which is, precisely, why parents should be in the examination room/office with their kids.

I don't care if the doctor is their brother. My parents were always in the room. Slightly embarrassing sometimes, but no chance of anything happening.

I don't know what to say. This is just one step away from camera's in our homes and government oversight of everything we do.

It's not far from this to indoctrination camps being mandatory for children and where have we seen that before. This is scary stuff.

Oregon needs to start impeachment proceedings now. Even the Left should see the danger in this. This is not a partisan issue. Governor Kate Brown is dangerous.

If you can't change a diaper then maybe they would decide you can't be a parent.

Because politics have become to ingrained in our society, thanks to Democrats, that left wing governments cannot be trusted. In Nevada not to long ago, there was a story of a 24 year married couple being denied the ability to adopt. . . simply because they had a concealed carry permit. Also, as someone else has said: what if the state health person comes into these homes and sees something they dont like? Political clothing or religious decoration? Now all of a sudden, they are in an authoritative position to hurt those parents. Even if it doesnt ultimately result in the child being taken away, it still is a risk. You can state ANYTHING is unsafe for kids. Don't have child locks on all thr cabinets? That could be construed as a risk. Bookshelf not strapped to the wall? OMG these parents are being negligent! I could go on and on. Unless there are extremely strict rules on the ability for parents to even remotely have a risk of losing their kid under such circumstances, this law should never pass.

Sorry ManfromEurope, we Americans still have our balls when it comes to trusting our government.

Even if optional, the system would still be ripe for abuse. Politics has infiltrated to much into our society. I can easily see a right wing family taking advantage of a benefit their tax dollars paid for and being visited by a petty left wing health professional who comes into their home and sees something they dont like: political items, hunting trophies, fox news on the TV, etc. and using their authoritative position to harm the parents. Even if it doesnt ultimately get the child removed, any law that puts new parents under such a risk or even FEAR of risk is to be under our biggest microscope.

Had to be a demonrat doing this... You have no rights whatsoever, the state should control all aspects of your lives because demonrats and other in the left think they know better than you what is good for you and your kids...

I am a member of the HSLDA, the homeschool legal defense association. They provide lawyers for families in many Situations, nearly always local government rather than the Feds oppressing people and depriving them of their rights.

Germany is (in)famous for maintaining that parents have no right to homeschool their own children. There are two cases from the Obama years, where homeschooling parents fled to the USA with their children but were deported--or had the children deported alone!---back to Germany.

The wunderlich family

The Albrecht family
The Albrecht child was apparently the victim of anti-Semitic bullying. When the mother and child fled to the US., they were arrested and the child was taken to Germany alone. His whereabouts remain unknown.....as far as I can learn..

But if this "study" comes to pass? That, at the least, could become a frightening reality.

Mandatory government home visits should be ruled un-Constitutional.

Until, of course, they are, right?

But there's no way this would ever be abused...oh, no, because govt. entities are all so trustworthy. As proven time and again, right?

This is already common practice in the UK (they're called health visitors) and it's not what you're describing. It's not some Orwellian dystopic child grab. They simply sit down with the parents and see how they're doing, especially helpful if the parents don't have a big social circle to fall back on. They give the mother information regarding child development goals and if the child is struggling with speech or age goals, they can council the parents on how to get help.

Why would you be against that?
It's NOT government's job to come in to people's home on a mandatory basis to check up on parents. It 's the pediatrician's job to check a baby when the parents bring them in for visits. And YES IT IS ORWELLIAN. Scary that people do not see it plain as the nose on their faces. But UK is still ahead of America on 1984. Nanny cams in homes to make sure the kids eat their broccoli and do their homework. It IS the NANNY state, pardon the caps.

Not everyone, just the government and the Left. And yes they do want to take our guns, it's just that the Bill of Rights got in their way. And just for the record, when Obama was Potus, some school admin came out saying that children belong to the State not their parents. Hillary's It Takes a Village much?

"We haven't had a very collective notion of, 'these are our children,'" Harris-Perry said. "So part of it is we have to break through our private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities. Once it's everybody's responsibility, and not just the households, then we start making better investments."
culturecampaign.blogspot.com...

This comes right out of the Statist John Dewey's notion that children are just cogs in the wheel of the State apparatus. He also was a signer of the Humanist Manifesto, which someone reads similar to the Communist Manifesto.

Here is the text.

It implements nothing except for a study. And the it would end the study in 2020.

So to all the Chicken Littles. The sky isn't falling.

Directs Oregon Health Authority to study home visiting by licensed health care providers. Re- quires report to interim committee of Legislative Assembly related to health care. Sunsets January 2, 2020. Declares emergency, effective on passage.
Oh of course, a study will end in nothing.... sure
