42,000 Coast Guard members are the only military branch to work without pay during shutdown

I have friends in the Coast Guard and this just sucks for them. No pay and yet you still have to go to work.
They are the only military branch not to get paid during the shutdown. They are considered part of homeland security. (most of the time, sometimes it's considered part of the Navy)

Regardless of the politics around this, just imagine having to go to work and not get paid, and not have the chance to leave and get another job.....

All because Chuck Schumer is throwing a hissy fit. The dollars in question are less than nothing and Chucky boy supported the wall before he opposed it. It is all about denying Trump a promise to the voters who elected him. And we see that Chucky.

Stuff like that got Trump elected in the first place and it will get him re-elected

So by all means Chuck make friends with the honest government employees that you are screwing.

They should also get the opinions of all the Coast Guard and find out how many want the wall. I am sure their jobs that require a nature of defense can answer as to who is actually stopping their checks.

Actually not True, hence the land part. If Homeland Security needs the Coast Guards help they have to go through the proper channels to acquire it. They are two separate entities.

That is why there are a number of certain people, that put themselves on the line in time of need. These are those kinds of people.

I would find it hard pressed to find anyone on the left or right that likes what is happening.

No biggie. They always get back pay... and a fat pension.

Furloughed "non-essential" workers, who are forced to stay home and not work, and "essential" employees currently working without pay will probably get back pay after Congress passes a law to provide it once the shutdown ends. This has been the case in every previous shutdown.

Exactly. The Senate has assured all Federal Employees that they will receive back pay.

Those who only learn from the MSM, or have really bad memories, buy that "not getting paid" hype B.S.. that is spouted during every single shut-down. This year, we've had 3 of them.

Don't kid yourself.
Schumer and Pelosi are loaded, so they don't care who doesn't get paid.
As far as the rest, anyone on the Left who isn't a government employee, they don't care either.
Just as long as bad Orange Man doesn't get his wall, and every illegal gets in unimpeded.

Surely I think our House and Congress could pass a relief bill, or are they on vacation during a crisis in this nation?

Us old timers (active duty, retired, civilian GS) know to always have an active credit card with about $20 due on it (to keep it active) for just these times since it happens so often. Once the back pay comes in we pay down that credit card back to $20. Contractors get paid because they are all established as essential services.

Retired pay will go out as usual this Dec. 31st. The subsequent months are on a "as funds are available" as to whether those retiree direct deposits go out or not.

All allotments taken out of paychecks will go out as usual (mortgages, insurance payments, bills, whatever was set up.)

Many live pay check to pay check though so that can be stressful.

Luckily a lot of the military and federal credit beuros do no interest loans or just act like you get paid on the same dates because they know they're secure.

None the less, not an ideal situation for service men.

Good point. And ObamaCare would have been long replaced, if Congress was forced to have that P.O.S. as their health coverage.

what I keep seeing is this "people are not getting paid" and/or "working but not getting paid" .

but what I am not seeing is EXACTLY WHO falls under this category and more importantly HOW MANY.

they always either give in vague examples like saying the "coast guard" or one quick blurb of a specific individual (with accompanying sob story) with zero information (ex essential vs non essential, who exactly pays them, ect).

Or outright lies
Remember when under obama administration they claimed that social security recipients would not get their checks and no one in the military would get paid?
hmm on page 4 or short 10 second blurb in the news to retract that (if they ever did).

If the shutdown was as broad reaching as the quick "hit and run" articles claimed you bet the main stream press would be posting exact government recorded details hourly every hour for a week or more.

the truth here (as many have posted) is this.
essential / critical services are being fully funded.
some services are critical for operations but are not being "paid" at this time
but those (as every other shutdown) are GUARANTEED back pay, continued benefits and continued time in service benefits (retirement credits, step raises, increased pay, ect) .
very few support services and contracted services are getting screwed.

Lastly and biggest elephant in the room is this is happening OVER HOLIDAY TIME.
christmas and new years.....
very little services (outside of law enforcement and active military) is being done and/or opened during this time to be effected .

but hey why would liberals and the main stream press let FACTS get in way of anti trump rants.

scrounger

who are you to decide if it is a biggie not not?

you say they always get back pay then say they will probably get back pay.

its awesome how so many decide that others not drawing a pay check is no big deal.

getting back pay at some point is not the same thing as getting your regular paycheck on friday
