You do not have to be aware of being an asset. Trump may not be receiving orders, but he certainly seems more eager to please Putin than American interests. Trade war with China? Opens up markets for Russia.

Yup I think the former Director of the CIA, John Brennan, made that point he makes the point that actually in his experience a lot of people just don't know that they have been compromised until it is too late. Pretty sure its discussed in the article.

The whole Russian asset angle is the establishment’s birtherism.

One big difference is that Obama was able to produce his birth certificate but Trump refuses to publish his tax returns. He is obviously hiding something that could undo him.

No, the big difference is that birtherism is panned as a conspiracy theory while this one is promoted. The IRS already has Trumps tax returns.

Or, he is a bumbling fool who lucked his way into the white house.

Think about it. Is it not an asset for Russia to have a bumbling fool in the White House? Every time Trump embarrasses himself on the world stage, the illegal "loans" Russia made pay a dividend.

The IRS does not care where the money comes from so long as it is reported. Paul Manafort is a mercenary. Someone was paying him to run Trump's campaign and it wasn't Trump.

Then it appears they have chosen the worst asset ever.

Since becoming President, he has hit them with harsher sanctions than ever before, strengthened NATO and has cut off their possibility of selling oil to NATO countries.

He has essentially crippled their economy.

Doesn't sound like an evil Putin plan to me.

No, if you really want to look for someone who has proven to be a provider to Russia and China of intelligence data in return for cash you need look no further than the Clintons.

And before you flop around and scream "but Clinton" I don't play the left's game of the History of Today. I believe in context, which the Clintons provide for this topic.

The level of mental gymnastics required to even entertain the idea of Trump being a Russian intel op is Olympian.

I do understand your frustration though.

Don't worry, in 6 years you will have another target to try to ruin.

Maybe the next one will be a little easier for the left, assuming there is a structured and coherent Democratic party by then.

Stuff like POTUS being a Russian intel-asset is the stuff of Hollywood movies, I totally get that but that doesn't mean it is out with the realms of possibility.

Hillary being a blood sucking vampire that prefers the blood of newborns and aborted babies is also well within that realm of possibility.

No he has not. Congress has. He lacks the political capital to veto anything.

Again the article does go into that quite a bit.

Trump has actually been on record as saying that he believes that Crimea is part of Russia, he wanted to bring Putin back into the G7 and has been very friendly with him.

it has been reported that after the Skripal poisoning Trump didn't want to expel those Russians but his staff basically had to convince him to do it. Also with things like Sanctions he has to work with Congress so thats also going to limit his abilities.

I also think that it could be part of the act to keep the sanctions up if he were to remove them it would provide further ammunition to his critics who say he is a Russian stooge.

So our Congress pushed for sanctions? Our Congress went and had that little chat with NATO?

As far as political capital, I think you don't understand what those words mean.

Yup.... and, being an intelligence asset for Russia also means you launder money for them, not that it is something exclusive to Russia.

Wrong:

Those who have so far not been paid, the filings show, include recently departed campaign manager Paul Manafort, California state director Tim Clark, communications director Michael Caputo and a pair of senior aides who left the campaign in June to immediately go to work for a Trump Super PAC.

Trump is more likely what the Russians call a "useful idiot".

And he has indeed been useful to them; putting off their sanctioning as long as possible, refusing to (publicly) accept their tampering in our election, and consistently giving Putin great PR, laundering Putin and his oligarchs dirty money--

He's playing his role the best he can.
