This is an ad that the Reagan/Bush campaign ran in the 1984 presidential election:

It's about the danger posed by Russia. And it addresses those who doubt that danger.

This message was powerful in the eighties. No matter who you supported. But, in many ways, it's even more powerful now.

Especially since Trump supporters, and many in the GOP, seem to doubt that there is a "Bear".

I recommend people on ATS watch it. If you're a Trump supporter, watch it several times. And really let it sink in. It's a message that will haunt you for years.

What was the danger from the Soviet Union then ?
What is the danger from Russia now ?
How does "then" compare to the situation now ?

I would rather be haunted for years than be lead to a global ending war because some people just can't get over they LOST an election?

Because us Trump supporters would rather see diplomacy applied and given a chance to work, doesn't mean we trust nor support Putin.

Seems we won't have to worry about being haunted for years if we let those of you who want a war win, now will we?

First of all, I think it's cute how you think all Trump supporters also support Russia. Did CNN tell you that?

Secondly, Reagan and Gorbachev had a very close relationship. That doesn't mean he was some Soviet puppet, and it wasn't treason. Y'all have just lost your damn minds.

Rather than posting GOP and RT talking points.

Just watch the ad and let it sink in.

Think about what it's saying. It's from a different time. But it's speaking across the years to us today.

The video is a political ad aimed at getting someone elected.

I asked 3 simple questions very relevant to the OP and the "video"

Uhm, not sure how to break this to you, but Russia in 2018 is nowhere near the Soviet Union in 1984. This line or argument is as silly as people trying to say Cuba now is the same degree of threat as it was during JFK's tenure. Also of note, in 1984 the USA was in the late stages of bankrupting the USSR via an arms race which Moscow was horribly outmatched in, money-wise. Reagan needed the US to fear the Soviets in 84 because we needed to drive the final nail in their coffin to ensure he could then turn around, 3 years later, and tell a broken, ground down USSR "Mr Gorbechev, tear down this wall." In other words, Reagan used Moscow's greed and lust for power against them.

Russia today is a totally different animal and, frankly, if we're going to base modern threats on past regional threats, then it's time we start talking seriously about how the European Union is actually the embodiment and realization of Adolf Hitler's vision for Europe (sans the ethnic cleansing part).

I remember the feelings back then, and I understand the situation as best I can now. Russia is as big a threat as we let them be. I don't know if you know this or not, but Reagan strengthened the Military and spend a but load on Nukes, today Trump strengthened the hell out of the military. The defense spending was a talking point for the left to hate on Trump not long ago. You may want to give these things a few more weeks for the memories to wear off.

But I can't think of ONE reason why trying to have better relations with Russia would be a bad idea. Just like with North Korea. If it doesn't work out, we are exactly where we are now. So a thinking man would be aggressive in his seeking of peace. There may not be a better opportunity. (If it makes you feel better, we can say Obama should get credit for it, and maybe a trophy. I bet he likes trophies.)

There is a bear in the woods.

For some people, the bear is easy to see.

Others don't see it at all.

Some people say the bear is tame.

Others say it's vicious and dangerous.

Since no one can really be sure who is right, isn't it smart to be as strong as the bear?

If there is a bear?

Especially since Trump supporters

Man... You guys crack me up!

Can you tell me the YUGE difference between then and now? I can sum it up in a few words.

Then:

Russia = Communism

Today:

Russia = Democracy

So.... For you dems... When exactly can we take off the warning label on Russia? At what point are they no longer the enemy and we can consider them friends?

I could have sworn Reagan and Gorbachev were buddies and combined their powers to get Russia set up as a Democracy. No? Still not enough?

Me thinks you are the kinds of people that keep wars going because you just can't bury the hatchet and call your fellow brother, friend....

So... How much longer before we classify Russia as no longer an enemy?

Oh yeah, before you go off about all the evil things that Russia does, you better make damn sure that the US or any other "allie" country doesn't do the same thing to another county or it's own people.

You really have to make up my mind on which.

So we as in the US ramped things up to a point that the world almost ended. The US and the USSR ran neck and neck on nuclear weapons, we would build one so the Soviets did the same to keep up. So having the 2 leaders set down and talk instead of firing up the centerfeuge to make more wepons in a bad thing. So I take you want us to go back to the old duck and cover days where we are all at 1 minute to midnight.

Considering the kind of crazy that's sprung up on the left.... I think I would be more at ease with the bear, to tell ya the truth. At least with a bear, you know if it's safe to turn your back or not.

At least with a bear, you can toss it a few pounds of meat and he'll be just fine. These wakos today... They're like zombies. Totally brain dead. They keep multiplying and their hunger for BS is insatiable.
