Almost half of US families can't afford basics like rent and food, in spite of Trump's tax cuts, tarrifs and other policies. Directing policy at the elites has not and will not help regular people in this country. Only going back to our roots of a non-corporate, non-commoditized society with lots of union and government jobs will be able to fix the disaster that is the US. The average income has barely increased for decades while the cost of housing has tripled and the number of good jobs available for non-phd's has shrunk drastically. No amount of trickle down hoaxing can fix it.

Oh, you'll have to go back a bit farther than that. Reagan era, GREED IS GOOD.

And Trump is resting on the laurels of Obama fixing Bush's disastrous economy.

If, by "fixing", you mean Obama cut off the country's economic balls with over-regulation, taxation and socialist policies...then I agree!

My late grandmother used to joke, before we moved north, that they had more to live on & not starve or go homeless when she was a kid in the Great Depression than families do today.

She was a sarcastic old broad, but she might not have been joking, either. Sometimes truths were just heavily dipped in the sarc & we didn't realize it.

Just curious, did America exist before Reagan?

Thats because they knew how to farm , hunt , trap fish.
Forgot the major one - They built their own homes out of chopped down trees.
Folks today ? Not so much
Comparing totally different times and situations

Today , folks do not concentrate on food and shelter. They have to have a Lexus , high priced phones , tats , etc.
Who has money left for unnecessary things like food and a place to live ?

It is a fact that middle class income stagnated under Reagan and it's never really recovered despite cost of living continuing to rise. Meanwhile the salary for CEOs has skyrocketed over the same period of time.

the key word is families....
half the adult population can't afford to have a family...
so, half the adult population shouldn't be getting married, they shouldn't be having sex since they lead to unaffordable kids...
right conservatives??

so, let's ban abortions, cut family planning funding, hand out a ton in tax breaks to the most affluent in our society and use the deficit that those cuts creates as an excuse to cut the programs that help the families that can't afford provide the basic needs for their families! ya, that will make the big mess we have so much bigger!!!

Eh, joke's on you, I guess. My great-grandmother did not farm, she was too "First Gen kid of immigrants" snooty for that s#. The family stories of her being too good to dirty her hands despite being poor are still infamous, and she's been dead 20 years.
I don't recall my grandmother ever mentioning eating a hunted or fished meal great-grandpa brought home growing up, either. I know she'd never had deer, bear or duck, it came up in a chat about uncommon foods we've tried. Anyway. considering I don't live too far from the house she grew up in, I'd say the odds of them doing any of those 3 in the middle of the city were low at best.

Assuming my grandmother's remarks were true to any degree, I doubt she'd neglect to consider vehicles and communication service/devices as financial factors before making the comparison.

so you can show me where this is a new problem and just stared with Trump? If this was an issue before Trump, then you may have stuck your foot so far down your throat, it will come out your backside.

And yet, in all that time, it's been a strict republican rule! Oh wait, we had 8 years of Clinton and 8 years of Obama mixed in there. 16 years of democratic rule, and still seem to have this issue. If I was a thinking man, I would say you can't really place blame on just one side. Glad I'm not one of those.

People will tweet about how they can't pay rent and food on their cell phones waiting for their Netflix movie to load on their flat screen.
