This is news, in that we are finally hearing about it.

But how long has this been going on?

Did it happen in 2012? 2008?

How long have our "leaders" weaponized their departments against political opponents?

I'd say this has been going on since the 1700's.

We seen to have an "ideal" concept of how government is operated. But the truth is far from the "ideal".

We elect weak, egotistical, narcissistic, failed humans to be our leaders. We give them unlimited power and money. And expect them to act like angels.

What Hillary and Obama did was wrong, illegal, corrupt, weak, low, pathetic, slimy, disgusting.

But that's how it's done.

Sorry, I have a miserable headache this morning.

I'm a bit grumpy.

Dirt is dirt. I could care less the source. One's opponents are always the most likely to come up with incriminating information and that doesn't make such information meaningless.

Ok then trump can make up dirt on all of the democrats and spy on them all.

Of course you would be outraged at that.

trump has already publicly stated that democrats are un-American and treasonous a week ago....why would I be outraged by Bulls**t from Trump. what I am outraged about, is that there are so many voting Americans that would believe him.....maybe you can meet Trump and tell him how wonderful he is, like he forces his cabinet members and republican congressmen to do.....just keep clapping and smiling when you meet him

Oh the Grassley and nunes memo are just all lies.

athere is no way any of it could be true, its all just garbage.

Oh wait, whats that. a member of Obamas state department has now admitted to now only meeting with steele about the dossier and passing that info to John Kerry (the sec. of State), but alos admitted that he gave steele info from Hillary operative Sid Blumenthal that came from another clinton operatice Cody Shearer that Steele took to the FBI?

In the summer of 2016, Steele told me that he had learned of disturbing information regarding possible ties between Donald Trump, his campaign and senior Russian officials. He did not provide details but made clear the information involved “active measures,” a Soviet intelligence term for propaganda and related activities to influence events in other countries.

In September 2016, Steele and I met in Washington and discussed the information now known as the “dossier.” Steele’s sources suggested that the Kremlin not only had been behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign but also had compromised Trump and developed ties with his associates and campaign.

I was allowed to review, but not to keep, a copy of these reports to enable me to alert the State Department. I prepared a two-page summary and shared it with Nuland, who indicated that, like me, she felt that the secretary of state needed to be made aware of this material.

In late September, I spoke with an old friend, Sidney Blumenthal, whom I met 30 years ago when I was investigating the Iran-contra affair for then-Sen. Kerry and Blumenthal was a reporter at The Post. At the time, Russian hacking was at the front and center in the 2016 presidential campaign. The emails of Blumenthal, who had a long association with Bill and Hillary Clinton, had been hacked in 2013 through a Russian server.

While talking about that hacking, Blumenthal and I discussed Steele’s reports. He showed me notes gathered by a journalist I did not know, Cody Shearer, that alleged the Russians had compromising information on Trump of a sexual and financial nature.

What struck me was how some of the material echoed Steele’s but appeared to involve different sources.

On my own, I shared a copy of these notes with Steele, to ask for his professional reaction. He told me it was potentially “collateral” information. I asked him what that meant. He said that it was similar but separate from the information he had gathered from his sources. I agreed to let him keep a copy of the Shearer notes.

Given that I had not worked with Shearer and knew that he was not a professional intelligence officer, I did not mention or share his notes with anyone at the State Department. I did not expect them to be shared with anyone in the U.S. government.

But I learned later that Steele did share them — with the FBI, after the FBI asked him to provide everything he had on allegations relating to Trump, his campaign and Russian interference in U.S. elections.

www.washingtonpost.com... _term=.a170fc6ea326

For those of y9ou that dont know, Shearer and Blumenthal are known clinton Operatoves that are considered some of the shadiest characters in Washington.

Heres a little tidbit.

Shearer was last in the news in 2015, when a bombshell ProPublica report on hacked emails from longtime Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal revealed that the longtime Clinton confidant and aide was running a “secret spy network” network feeding Clinton information on, among other things, Benghazi and Libya while she was secretary of State. Recall that Blumenthal is a known liar and rumormonger so disreputable that the Obama White House put their foot down and nixed her attempt Blumenthal at the State Department.

www.weeklystandard.com...

Well it turns out Grassleys memo was roght about this.

Steele was taking dirt from hillarys own team that was funneled through Obamas state department and giving ot top the FBI that was using it for the investigation into trump.

100% proven, confirmed by the state department member that did it.

Are people starting to see how corrupt thhis whole investigation is? Its not enough that Hillarys team was paying for the dossier, but they were actually feeding steele info through the state dept to be included in his statements to the fbi.

While I’m personally loving the drip drip of dem corruption I can’t say people like you or I am surprised by it. Maybe this slow death will actually open the more hardend Dems eyes to their parties corruption.

If there was even a fraction of this type of evidence of Russian collusion I would have long been pissed about it. Where are there people who claim to be Liberltarians outrage at this obvious corruption?

As at least one Libertarian, I have been with you the whole time on this one.

But made up dirt is made up dirt and to use THAT as evidence is also what has us upset as much as the spying on a candidate for the Democrats.

There's more than enough proof that the Obama administration, Hillary, and the DNC committed crimes while in office.

There was enough evidence that the Bush Jr Administration, Dick Cheney, and the CIA committed crimes while in office.

You can put together all the proof you want but it won't change the fact those elected to power are now officially above the law. They always said justice was blind but that's an understatement. She's not only blind as a goddamn bat but missing as far as Washington, DC is concerned. These investigations may rid us of some crooked agents but won't remove the corrupt politicians. Each party claiming the other is corrupt while both trample on our Constitution. This site proves daily that even remarkably intelligent people will eat whatever #-sandwich of a story their party feeds them like cult members. Please understand this is all about keeping or gaining congressional seats in the next election and nothing else. Forest for the trees..

If you look closely at this thread you will understand that there are a goodly number of us who are not partisan. There are a whole bunch of us who see, as you do, that the last three decades have been under the control of the Bush/Clinton Crime Syndicate.

At some point in the past we realized that Dems and Repubs were simply different wings of the same vulture. We're all for just cleaning up the place and let the chips fall where they fall---don't care whose little cartoon symbol resides beside their name.

You might be right that nobody will go down this time either but those of us who care about good government are doing what we can, in our small ways, to make sure that we don't hand this mess off to our children and grandchildren with some toss-off phrase like, "Doesn't mean anything---nothing is going to change."

Of course, if that is your attitude nothing will change. It takes hard work over a long time to root out corruption that is as firmly entrenched as this bunch. I know this from personal experience with a local government that was rife with it. They will deny you public records, threaten you with arrest and call you the "lunatic fringe" for daring to question what went on in the secret meetings. But with persistence in hard work and honesty in taking it to the people you CAN SEE CHANGES made. In our area only a couple of the people involved went to jail but the rest lost their lofty positions when the truth came out. If you tell people the truth MOST of them will gravitate to the truth. Those that cling to party are the minority when shown that the dishonesty they've supported has cost them greatly.

Something out of the NYT article that is relevant here also.

Cody Shearer, an American political operative with ties to the Democratic Party, has been crisscrossing Eastern Europe for more than six months to secure the purported kompromat from a different Russian, said people familiar with the efforts, speaking on the condition of anonymity to avoid damaging their relationship with him. Reached by phone late last year, Mr. Shearer would say only that his work was “a big deal — you know what it is, and you shouldn’t be asking about it.” He then hung up.

Mr. Shearer’s efforts grew out of work he first began during the 2016 campaign, when he compiled a pair of reports that, like the dossier, also included talk of a video and Russian payoffs to Trump associates. It is not clear what, if anything, Mr. Shearer has been able to purchase.

I haven't actually given up hope. My pessimistic sounding posts are made in hopes that someone will read them and see the light. That they have cared more about their chosen self serving representatives above their fellow Americans. I still believe in the American dream and believe things can change but God knows those in Washington are deeply entrenched and it's going to be hard to remove them despite investigations. It's like a game of Whack-a-mole. Everytime you see a high ranking official in trouble, the news changes and some personal assistant steps down and the story ends.

I'm with ya on still believing in the people and the dream! Like Trump pointed out in his speech---US citizens are dreamers too! My kids (daughter & son-in-law) have been dreaming of having their own business, their own shop, being their own boss, since the early 1990s when they were teenagers. Due to their debt phobia it has taken them a very long time to realize that dream. Just before Christmas last year, they opened their own store. Yeah, they're working six or seven days a week now rather than five and their personal budget is cut to the bone but they are having too much fun to even care because they are living their dream.
Meanwhile a millennial nephew is using them as his inspiration because he too wants his own business someday. He's working a couple of extra jobs to hurry up and get rid of his mortgage. Meanwhile he is learning valuable management skills in his field. Now that the insurance mandate is gone and he and his wife are getting more of the money they've earned, he will be able to make a lot more progress toward paying off that debt and saving up to start his own.

As I stated earlier, it is hard work to root out government corruption even when it is commonly known. They know all the ways of hiding what they need to hide. You have to have an insider to help you look if you've never been involved in government bureaucracy. You have to be brave and let threats roll off your back. Most importantly you have to KNOW WHO TO TRUST. Locally, we had one elected official that we knew was honest. Ours was not a partisan thing because all these guys and gals were of the same party. They were counting on certain members of the state government who were of the same party to save them. Lucky for us, the one man who could have saved them was honest. Once he ordered the documents released we had the information we needed to take to the people to show them what had been going on while they weren't looking.

Few of them went to jail but none of them have even dared to put forth their name as a candidate since. Two have committed suicide when their dirty dealing in private business were about to be exposed. And yes, it is like Whack-A-Mole. It takes eternal vigilance to make sure that elected officials don't wander into corrupt ways.

Here's the problem with denial. It's refusing to accept reality. A slow drip of reality isn't the cure. Certain members are either shills or so blind that they won't stop believing what they believe, ever. Even if all of the perps go to prison, the battle cry will be that trump is a dictator imprisoning political enemies. Evidence be damned.

I love all this, its a wonderful theatrical play that always ends in farce...

There's one thing that remains constant here, no one pays the price for their actions...

minions are cast aside and thrown to the wolves but in the end no one in power EVER gets to pay for what they did no matter how awful it is...

Until you fix that issue all this is pointless...

Take down the powers that be and then you take back democracy...

OK.

Guy works at State Department.
He gets information that a Presidential campaign might be working with the Russian Government.
He gets some information from Steele.
Gets some information from another guy (Former or Current Clinton "Operative")
He lets Steele know he isn't the only one getting that kind of information and shares some of his notes from the conversation with the other guy.
He also shares with John Kerry, the US Secretary of State.

Sidenote: And none of it is released by the Obama Administration during the election.

What exactly is damning about this scenario?
I seriously want to know.

*If we replaced the name Trump with Clinton (Clinton Dossier) and Clinton had won...You guys would be shouting that not ENOUGH was done to share this information. That it was a damning cover-up by the Obama administration. That they suppressed intel that was damaging to their candidate.

Tell me what you think is amiss here. Please bottom line it.

3 longtime friends and associates of the Clintons were feeding information to a British agent to compile a report that was used by Obama's administration to investigate their political opponent during a general election, whilst failing to tell a FISC judge the source of the information when gaining a warrant to spy on a member of their opponents' campaign.

Hope that is simple enough for you as a bottom line.

If you think this is fine, then you'll be ok with the Trump administration using foreign agents and the FBI to spy on the Democrat candidates leading up to the midterms and open investigations on each of them based on their suspicions, whilst misleading the FISA court in order to get warrants for the spying, then leaking all their suspicions to the right wing media in the run-up to the elections.

Who were the 3 again?

to compile a report that was used by Obama's administration to investigate their political opponent during a general election,

Obama wasn't running in the General election.
The FBI under Obama was still obligated to investigate potential Russian espionage campaigns.
If it was material for the purpose of elections, why was none of it used or revealed during the election?
For that matter the FISA warrant on Page was granted when he was not working for the Trump Campaign and only a couple weeks before voting, fully insufficient time to influence the election outcome.

whilst failing to tell a FISC judge the source of the information when gaining a warrant to spy on a member of their opponents' campaign.

Page wasn't a member of the Trump campaign then. Trump's people were very vocal about that fact.

* Please try again with accurate reasoning and facts.

if you are a republican and your new here, make sure the emphasis is always on Clinton, Obama, the democrats, and now deep state...pay no attention to Russian connections to the trump administration, the massive amount of regulations that have been done away with, or the massive tax cuts for the wealthy. your goal is to find the worst things that American government does, and keep hammering on it day after day. if actual facts come out that clearly shows you might be wrong, ignore it completely, do "what abouts", or quote from anti-government blog cites on the next "outrageous" conspiracy.....
this has been a public service announcement, regular liberal bashing will now continue.

It was Obama's administration directly involved in feeding information to a foreign agent in order for the agent to then pass the report back to be used to gain a warrant to spy on Carter Page. No he wasn't part of Trump's campaign a the time, but that did not stop the leaks linking him to the campaign in a barrage of news conflating him with Trump's Presidency.

Clinton buddies are Cody Shearer, passed information to Sidney Blumenthal and on to Johnathon Winer in Obama's state dept who passed it on to Steele, who then sent it all back the Obama's state dept in order to drive an investigation into a political opponent.

We already knew of Blumenthal's ties and we now know Winer was his friend for 30 years and he himself served under Bill Clinton. As for Shearer we know of him from the 2015 ProPublica report - a Clinton buddy. 3 Clinton buddies conspiring to feed information to a foreign agent - not coming forward with it themselves, rather receiving their own information back to make it look like intelligence. None of that was declared to the FISA court.

The jig is up. Not only did Clinton pay for the 'intelligence', her team drafted it, then Obama's team used it.
It's all very simple and incredibly corrupt - par for the course for Obama, Clinton and their cronies.
