Oh now DB, they're making a Utopian omelet and when you do that, you have to break a lot of eggs, maybe all of them, in order to succeed.

Then he's wrong and hyperbolic. The IC, including the FBI, was directly involved in Watergate at the behest of the President. They literally burgled the DNC office and wiretapped them. The FBI then destroyed files regarding the case. The President even had tapes discussing these crimes.

And even in that open and shut case they couldn't find anyone significant guilty. People like Strzok may go down but no one higher.

This goes both ways. Clinton and Monica didn't get much disapproval from Democrats just like not many religious right have two cares about Trump paying off a porn star.

It really didn't live up to the hype and this thread in particular is making all sorts of wild claims that aren't even remotely supported by the dodgy memo.

Let's just start at the top of the OP's excerpt:

Well, no. The memo doesn't link anything to Obama or even AG Lynch. It doesn't show that obtaining the FISA warrant for Page was at all motivated by partisan politics. There's actually only two claims of bias:

1. That Bruce Ohr was apparently concerned about Steele having an anti-Trump bias (based on a handful of quoted words with no context) which would actually indicate that Ohr himself was not biased or part of some grand conspiracy.

2. There's a paragraph summarizing the Strzok texts at the very end. Except no link is made between Strzok and the FISA warrant or Strzok and Steele. And of course, the idea that Strzok was motivated by bias is built on a handful of statements texts that are wide open to interpretation out of supposedly several thousand texts.

What it includes that is supposed to impugn higher ups (Comey, Yates, Rosenstein) is that they signed off on the the FISA warrant application and subsequent applications for extension of the warrant (every 90 days).

The thrust of it is that that the FBI/DOJ didn't adequately explain the source of the intel from Steele and that they cited a Yahoo News article to corroborate the intel which was itself based on information from Steele. That's certainly a concern but there's really not enough information to know what to make of it. Did they know that the article was based on information from Steele? That seems to tie in with the Grassley letter about the possibility that Steele lied to the FBI about whether or not he had spoken to the media.

But perhaps the most important thing. We learned that the FISA warrant was applied for and granted on October 21, 2016 which was about a month after Carter Page had resigned from the Trump campaign. So nothing actually pointing to political motivation, nothing pointing to Obama, nothing pointing to a desire to spy on a member of the Trump campaign let alone Trump himself.

It's raises a few questions and they should be explored (and I'm sure the OIG is) but it's certainly been drastically overblown. And I suspect the minority memo is going to sink some of the allegations such as the dossier being "essential" to the FISA warrant.

Also, the minority is calling for the release of the McCabe transcript because they're saying that the memo deliberately makes a misleading characterization of something McCabe testified to (and it's weird that they use quotes for parts but paraphrase his testimony).

Ive been watching this intently for the last couple weeks and to be honest I can't say I lean to the left or the right at all, just an ordinary citizen with concern for my country. It's safe to say because of all of this nonsense I find it not only impossible to trust just about any of the alphabet agencies we have, I have also no faith in Republicans or Democrats. That said, my common sense tells me this is all just theatre and all in all there will be no repricussions beyond egos being hurt of supporters of both sides, a few scapegoats of no real significance being thrown under the bus and no matter how bias will still have a ridiculously amount of followers who can believe white is black, left is right and up is down. I have lost all faith in government. Not that I really had any to begin with. But like an idiot, I still pay my taxes and hope some of it goes towards what our country needs help with like infrastructure and those less fortunate. It's like paying to watch a circus that leaves you with a feeling of confusion why you even paid for the price of admission.
