Jared Kushner's status as a top aide to President Donald Trump was used to lure Chinese investors to his family's New Jersey development, even after his family's company apologized for mentioning his name during a sales pitch in May, CNN has found.
One webpage posted in March by Chinese company Qiaowai that remains on the company's page on the popular Chinese social media site WeChat mentions Trump and suggests he supports the program: "Even some members of Trump's family have participated in the growth of the EB-5 program ... the "Kushner 88" panoramic New Jersey apartment project ... The lead developer on the now-completed project was Kushner Companies which is linked to Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner." It goes on to say, "Given this, in the Trump era, the EB-5 program is likely to receive support and be expanded."
Reporters at that event were askd to leave.
Nicole Kushner Meyer, the sister of White House adviser and President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, mentioned her brother's new role in the administration during a pitch for her family's property. “There are always going to be people in China -- and in any country for that matter -- who will try to use influence and try to use well-known people for business opportunities,” Obama told ABC News.

The EB-5 visas are, in effect, purchased by rich aliens for $500,000 per family. These visas can then be turned, if all goes well and a couple of years pass, into permanent resident alien status for everyone in the family. The program is due to sunset on December 9 unless Congress acts to extend the deadline.

Meanwhile, ironically, the Obama administration, which loves the EB-5 program, has refused to produce statistics on the distribution of EB-5 moneys geographically. This despite the fact that the distribution of immigrants, by city and state, has been published for decades, maybe a century. Whether the administration did this deliberatively or not, the result has been to mask the enormous tilt of these funds — originally designed to serve depressed areas — to prosperous areas, such as Park Avenue and Wall Street
