Apparently the E-4B's were placed into hangers with the tail sticking out in advance of the weather. However, the exposed tail acted as a weather vane of sorts and the planes were shifted quite a bit inside the hanger. Damage assessment is ongoing and no word about the extend of the damage or when they will return to service.

Of the remaining two, one is undergoing heavy MRO and is unavailable and this leaves just one to serve as an emergency command post aside from AF-1

Perhaps it is time to consider replacing the air frames if the damage is severe. Aside from a 747-8 which may not have alot of life left beyond the next AF-1, perhaps its time to make the shift to a 777X

Eight RCs were damaged too. Six are back in service. It doesn't sound like the E-4s were damaged too badly. Three of the RCs were on the ramp and were spun in place.

I don't think they're in any position to replace the E-4 too. They're already looking at replacing pretty much everything. They're starting to talk about combining the E-4 and E-6, but they're five to ten years away from that program.

Sheet metal damage, no big deal. They had them in the hangar with the tails sticking out. The wind caught the tail and pushed then into the hangar doors.

Well, at least there'll be no World War 2.5 and a wee bit just yet .
Amazing what a big blow can do...was Donald about the place then?

They still have the E-6Bs and one of the E-4Bs available.

True, while I think the eggs for breakfast plane that was being worked on is also back in service ahead of time.

I guess we'll just have to call foomsday off. Damn that EU.....wait, thank god for the EU. I never can remember who we're rooting for and blaming from week to week.

The remaining E-4B has been busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest the last week or so.

I think it was Theresa May, who May or May not have ordered that blow, (that's the way she may or may not work)
Anyway, those blows can affect you and I badly, I just flew back from New Yoik through a blow like that, and when I landed me arms were killing me.

A wildly amusing, utterly absurd claim in another thread.

I blame the blowhards in her office. The hot air from them merged with the BS from Washington and it was too much for the atmosphere to handle, resulting in the tornado.

I'm going to state the obvious before I get back to work.

You have tens of millions of dollars worth of high tech aircraft in Nebraska, a tornado prone state if there ever was one, and you put them in sheet metal hangars? With their tails sticking out?

I don't think the weather is the problem here.

They're not sheet metal hangars. The hangars are quite solid. The ones they were in aren't large enough to put a 747 completely inside, so their tail was sticking out the doors.

I know, it's easy to lose track. I mostly don't bother.

When I get angry, I just use my "I'm angry so I made a sign" sign. Kind of a catch-all.

Pesky EU. Confusing us all the time.

I'm going to make two signs. Onewill be pro the other con, and at the bottom I'll put, "insert name here" for whoever we're protesting or supporting.
