We just need to watch the solutions proposed.

Right, the issues are two-fold:

A) Leaking (stealing info) has generally always been illegal (see Ellsberg, Manning, etc).

B) PUBLISHING leaks, not. The concerning part is some people want to hold the media accountable and prosecutable for simply publishing that information. THAT is an assault on the first amendment, and which is why it is generally constitutional to publish said info (unless it is strictly a National Security issue, Prior Restraint).

If Russia attacked us, we deserve to know... for that matter if there was shady dealings with Russia and team Trump, we deserve to know.

no argument there. As long as what we are told is factual. SO far, the shady information has permeated our daily existence and made a lot of folks blind to trusting anything, and for good reason.

Just saw a tweet that a person was arrested for leaking that NSA document to the press.

All part of the plan.

Now everybody will automatically believe the fake documents are real !!

So no mention of Trump-Russia "collusion".
No mention of the DNC being "hacked"
No mention of Podesta emails being hacked.

check

Got to love it when a highly classified report is leaked days prior to Comey testifying.

It's specifically about the systems hacked and by whom... the Russian government, not anything else.

My understanding is there is no mention of anything specifically having to do with Trump or what you mentioned, it's the fact that the attack happened, with the a very real and severe potential to undermine the US democratic process.

Is the timing suspect? I suppose one could say that, or allude to it, but it doesn't change the fact that it appears the Russian military was behind it.

The internet will always be a conduit for this kind of activity. The job of those in the cyber security field is to be a few steps ahead of the hackers, as they usually target vulnerabilities in systems. Being first doesn't always happen to the good guys, which is why hacking can be a lucrative profession. Plus hackers are usually much better at cyber work than most, it's there moral compass that drives their ambitions.

Oh, #, this was in Georgia.

The FBI arrested a Georgia-based federal government contractor at her home this weekend, and on Monday announced she is being charged with “removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet.” The leaker is identified in the criminal complaint as 25-year-old Reality Leigh Winner, an employee of the contractor Pluribus International Corporation who held a top secret clearance. The Justice Department alleged that Winner admitted taking the classified intelligence document and mailing it to a news outlet.

Russia has excellent technology. PAK FA and T-14 are amazing. I wouldn't put Russia past hacking DNC. They certainly have the high tech technology of doing so. If they did in the 2016 election, it would have been the first time and the only time they did it. They didn't hack any other election, including the Brexit referendum and the France election which Macron won.

Officials requested that we not publish or report on the top secret document and declined to comment on it

LMAO. OMG I love this. Did the Officials request that they not print who the Officials were also? If they didn't listen to them about not printing it, why not print who said that.

The top-secret National Security Agency document, which was provided anonymously

Ah The Intercept. An ultra left wing rag still trying to be relevant. Well enough time wasted on this thread. I was actually hoping for more.

One would think it would include any other systems linked to our political system that were hacked... like the DNC, RNC etc.

But the document (you know, the information), appears to be real, so whether there is an anonymous source is irrelevant.

Nice genetic fallacy.

****

PS: the suspected leaker has been identified and arrested, after allegedly confessing.
