Just when things couldn't get more absurd..

Irish police are investigating Stephen Fry for blasphemy after he called God an 'utter maniac' who is 'mean-minded and stupid' on television, it has been reported.

A viewer reported the offence after the comedian spoke about God during an interview with Irish broadcaster RTE in February 2015.

www.dailymail.co.uk...

Without turning this into a religious debate, this is utterly ridiculous, blasphemy is punishable?

I shake my head!

Very stupid indeed, what exactly can the police do?

Say.... Mr Fry your going to court so we can make a mockery of you for all the public to whiteness.

It would be a very different story if he had said that very same thing about a certain other religions deity.

I didn't think blasphemy was illegal. If it is, then there are a lot of people breaking the law out there. Maybe it is because it was broadcast? Does it break some broadcasting content rule?

I imagine that he means any god, not just a Christian god.

In order for it to be blasphemous wouldn't you first have to prove that god existed .

If so he better go into hiding if he likes having his attached to his body.

Exactly what i was thinking.

Since that's almost impossible he'll get a smack on the ass.

To be honest, the person who reported this should get a sense of humour or just quit watching TV, cause i'm sure Steven Fry would have said (whatever he said) in a fun manner.

Absolute nonsense , surely the Irish police have better things to do.
Here's what Stephen Fry had to say in person.

It's his opinion which in a free thinking democracy he is entitled to.
He is of course right.

I heard about this the other day. Apparently nothing will come of it and he won't be getting extradited or having 'H' branded on his face.

You can imagine how much he offends some people! He's English, posh, atheist and totally gay. That's like every strict Irish Catholic's trigger spots.

The only thing to make him worse would be if he's lapsed Protestant

Thanks for sharing the vid, he's not wrong in what he's saying cause it's only his opinion and answering the questions given to him...Free speach.

Hopefully the attention will lead to overturning that law. I'm really surprised that a law like that passed in Ireland in 2009. I know the Church is still really powerful there but their laws have been progressively secular for quite sometime now. That law is a huge step backwards, obviously.

Yeah I can imagine.

The person who complained was doing their civic duty? I bet he's a load of fun to be around!

Oh and Capricious... love that word

Well if he broke the law then he will suffer the consequences
I don't go to other country's and say things that offend people unless I was stupid

If it's an Irish law then it's the law

No point telling others how to act in their own country
Poor Mr Fry, left his manners at home and may pay for it

If he went to a Muslim country, I bet he wouldn't have acted so righteous and smarmy, just thinks he can go to Ireland and act the hero

As for the law, it's archaic, it's wrong in my opinion, but I don't live there

Probably one of the parochials living out in farmer country. "There'll be no fecking poofs on TV while I can draw breath, so." Privvy in the back yard.

He's a treasure is Fry. Much loved in the UK and didn't do so bad in your Opera House either.

It's the same deity, Judaism, Christianity and Islam all worship the same God. If you are going to try and be clever it helps to get the little things right.
