This is coming in as a possible terrorist attack...

To melt a bridge to the point of collapse had to take some serious heat...

Is this what you're talking about?

interesting..

Atlanta Police said the fire is being caused by piles of electrical wiring that is burning under the I-85 overpass near the Lindbergh MARTA station.

not sure why we have to jump to terrorist attack right away.......seems a bit "fear mongery" to me

Wow.

I had to google cos your link is kaput and no one anywhere is mentioning "a terror attack".

Where'd you get that idea from?

An intense fire can eventually compromise the integrity of reinforced concrete.

This is especially so, given the location of this particular reinforced concrete: directly above an intense fire.

You can see it collapse here, though it is rather obscured by smoke.

Of course it's automatically assumed to be a terrorist attack without any kind of evidence whatsoever. *rolls eyes*

No injuries or deaths though which is good. These guys must be the worst terrorists ever. Lol.

i think the raging fire gave it away, if you look at other such collapses you'll see no fire usually.. kind of suspicious.

This crazy.

No one knows or at least no one is saying what caused the fire. Apparently the heat was insane. How does no one know?what started it!? Some LEO on the scene knows. Right? They brought in the Hartsfield Jackson fire foam trucks.

I-85 is a stupid place for a terrorist attack. There's nothing special about it. It;s not a landmark or otherwise famous. I'm not thinking anyone with actual knowledge of the situation is calling it that. All it;s doing is screwing up the commute. Traffic through that area is bad under normal conditions.

My first guess seeing the intensity is that there is an accelerant in play.

To those who don't know ATL - it's fricking I-85!! That's like saying you have to cut off your main artery. The only saving grace is that it's inside the perimeter so at least, once it's cleared of travelers who were on at the time, there is a bi-pass via 285. Plus the Buford Highway Connector.
But make no mistake- it's THE main access to Midtown and Downtown Atlanta.

Closed for months....85 north and south in the heart of ATL.

No doubt about that at all but I'll be shocked if it's terror. Waaaaay too soon to call that, IMHO.

I blame the careless hobos that used to live under that bridge. Is it to late to throw my ex-wife in that fire?

Thank goodness it's spring break in many counties next week.

Supposedly a lady stuck on 85 in labor. I feel her. I got a hotel near the hospital with my first kid so I wouldn't get stuck on 400 when I went into labor on a Friday.

News saying PVC products. That's freaking toxic AF!

Its near to the airport, that is going to be some kind of a mess in Atlanta.

My husband just flew today from Oklahoma I am so happy that he did earlier in the day.

My first thought was a tanker truck wrecked and exploded under the overpass.

Not a terrorist attack, just another day in America .
