The extreme and profound polarization in our society - evident not only in MSM media bias, but also in certain internet forums (that shall remain nameless) - is so all-consuming that I despair that we shall ever again find common ground...and without some attempt at securing common ground we shall never be able to address real, critical problems and find resolutions for them.

The contention is overwhelming....I think I may actually need to find a safe space...and I'm not even a liberal.....

Well that excuses it then.

Fox did so Cnn can, too.

Two wrongs somehow equate to right these days for all too many. That is just about as immature an attitude as it's possible to have...

I really do fear for this country's future.

Well CNN said this off the air. Are you going to sit there and tell me you never told a dirty joke in private?

I doubt they would shed a tear if his plane crashed.
Tears of joy maybe.
But here I think they were just screwing around.

I'm sure you're right, but it does tell you what they really think. When we say the the press is biased, well yeah it is, and this is proof.

Home and at work are generally speaking two different places. At work, you are being paid, again generally, to be professional, both in your work and behavior, are you not?

Regardless of who said it, it is less than professional, and should be treated as such. I'm not demanding they be fired or anything of that nature, because it is, for all intents and purposes, a tempest in a teapot. IMHO, it smacks of being unprofessional.

You disagree? That's cool. Like I said, tempest in a teapot.

I do agree. It is unprofessional. I'm just saying it happens. The best we can do is demand that CNN takes action for it. I'm just trying to point out that we all do these things when we think others aren't paying attention. This guy just happened to forget to check if the camera was on or not.

Send in the Secret Service to investigate them till they are broke and penniless, it is what they would do if anyone chattered such talk about Obummer over a live broadcast.

don't worry, the Trump Administration will start enforcing all kinds of strange regulations on the books when it comes to CNN. CNN loves big government and is about to experience it full force. That network will not last long.

So Trump is going to use his position of power to violate the first amendment rights of a media outlet?

I'm not surprised.

It appears you and many others are advocating that Trump do some of the very things you feared Obama would do.

there was never any fear of President Obama. That was not his personality. But Donald Trump will enforce every regulation on the book to break the back of CNN. And the public will root him on in that effort.

I agree. It is within Trump's personality, and that of many of his supporters, to use what power they have to go after political opponents, and possibly violate their constitutional rights in the process.

Question: What regulation would he enforce that is not already being enforced?

All while the 1st Amendment weeps in the corner...

Yup.

It does happen. I think there was more than a little, I hesitate to call it malice, dislike inherent in the comment...

But, meh...

I'm sure whoever it was was given the spanking deserved.

That's a valid question. Accidents happen. Doesn't make what was said right, but it's hardly illegal.

I'm pretty sure they probably just got written up if anything. Really only the right wing blog-o-sphere even gives a # about this news. And only there because they can use it as a propaganda tool to reinforce the bias and echo chamber that the left is evil, dumb, and always out to get Trump.

What was the wrong that was done though? It was an off the cuff joke about a hand signal that was made off the air? Furthermore, the person who made it wasn't even saying that she was hoping for the plane to crash.

I'm not even concerned with the Fox comment and that was a person on the air communicating a desire for the President's death. I cannot imagine how this harmless off the air joke is even remotely concerning.

"break the back?"

Authoritarians will cheer on their strongman leader's abuse of power in a personal vendetta against a media organization and you think that's a good thing?

That's really scary.

And another thing, despite what so many Trump supporters casually claim time and time again, they are NOT "the public" but rather a segment of it and a minority at that.

Not wrong. Unprofessional. I know I said wrong above, but in the context of the reply, it was, well, the correct thing to say.

Accidents do happen, but in a studio wouldn't it be prudent, if one is going to be a smart-arse, to make sure all cameras and mikes are off before being said smart-arse?

The only punishment warranted here, if any truly is, is a slap on the wrist with a wet noodle, and a hearty don't do it again... Certainly it doesn't require anything like the response that some are advocating.
