We could never afford MAC's. When Windows 7 crashes here, we'll be forced to replace with Ubuntu or possibly go over to the Samsung Galaxy TAB A 9.7.

I'm done with windows.

Yep just burn a Linux image and have it wipe out windows. I did this on a laptop. Linux works great! No problems!

Common issue.

Download the patch from MS here.

Once you install that reboot, go to windows update and it will be back to normal speeds for checking updates.

^^^This...and you can also do this...
Install KB3020369, then download the Windows 7 Update Rollup for your version of Windows 7(Must be downloaded with Internet Explorer). This is an unofficial SP2 from MS. Be certain your computer is unhooked from the internet before installing the rollup.

Ubuntu or Linux mint is good. Ubuntu is Linux. Just download it to your computer and you have to burn it to a cd r.
Install it or put it on a jump drive.

I was COMPLETELY happy with Windows XP. Windows 8 turned my computer into an app hungry cell phone. No bueno. Have 7 now, I will never go to 10. As previously said, Linux is a great choice. Windows is doing nefarious things and frankly, I don't trust it one bit.

Agreed, XP was the best! 10 is a mess. Linux rocks. I have a Mac with no problems.

XP is good today and seems light but when you had people with like 32mb ram and an 400mhz processor would soon make you headbutt a large hole in the wall.

That is installed on my system....I still have the issue....and it has gotten worse.
For the last two months, I have had to totally turn OFF updates.

Last month...I waited until the end of the month...ran check for updates and was easily able to install the updates I chose to install.

So, I'll be trying the same thing next week.

Is there a workaround to the INternet Explorer requirement?
I never used it on this computer....and so it is probably woefully not up to date....I don't even remember how IE works LOLOL
