Additionally, the thread, if salvageable, could be put on a temporary lockdown or blackout mode, while the op is given a chance to fix it. Once it is to the satisfaction of the mods, it can be reactivated again.

I'm of the opinion that, if possible, every last bit of content should be attempted to be saved and given a chance to be discussed, so as to further enrich and expand our knowledge base. Especially if a few minor changes would do the job.

Of course, some threads are simply unsalvageable, but I have a feeling this is not the case with the majority of Xed out threads...
