With a monitor you are always looking at a screen , the real world is always in your peripheral vision ,with VR the screens become your eyes putting you in the game world as opposed to just looking at it.

Ah, that makes sense.

So that begets this question: Is the experience worth spending the money to get it? Is it really that much more "real-life" because you take the rest of the real-world out of your view?

Do you know? Or have you read any experiences from people who have tried it?

I've followed the development of the Rift over the last couple of years and have seen opinion improve over different versions , opinion of the majority of reports I've seen has been positive but as with any gaming platform it's the software that will sell it.

I think VR will go from strength to strength over the coming years , it's early days right now but from what I've seen so far I think it will be a cool purchase for a keen racer.

I put my new rig together, and I think the only thing on it that may not just handle an Oculus is the vid card.

But I'm currently not sitting on the hundreds needed to update the card and buy the headset even if I was jonesing for VR. Besides, husband needs an updated CPU and case before I get anymore shinies.

I remember virtual reality back in 95 when the movie lawnmower man came out.

Back then they said VR is going to rule the gaming industry.
Today we see VR selling many brands some with potential some not.

I don't know I think it's a great concept, but I've got my doubts that it's going to a hype for a short period.

I think that I'll buy a system soon , just to satisfy my dreams that I had back then.

Looking at the hololens, well that's something new to me and looking at the multiple options this thing has it seems it has a better future then a closed vr system imo. .

My big question is: Is this going to actually fly or is it just going to be like 3D was the first time around?

I'm rolling with the PS4 VR headset and have it on pre-order. It was going to cost me too much to upgrade my pc, purchase an Oculus and games too $. The D-day airborne game for Oculus looks like great fun. I wonder how long before people complain of post traumatic stress LOL! Bring on Elder Scrolls VR!

For now many who play simulations or first person games are absolutely going to like it .. Just as every hardware it needs software to compete with other systems ,and just like game manufacturers who want to see a vr system that has the most features with no lag , will probably win amongst other manufacturers.

However I do think that in the end , completely being isolated from the world is going to annoy and if not so will have some effect on your psychical life , like getting anxiety attacks or something like that.

If you look at for example hololens you still have contact with the outside world.

We have to wait and see the outcome of this..

Seems its now finally here

(edited..had angry joe's interview without noticing it was already done above...so changed it with ign)

Sidenote: there are a ton of luddites in ATS...go on youtube and you will see anyone trying it to be nearly unanimously amped about this.

I think the silliest comment though was the person saying why do anything different, that gaming was already perfect with monitor and voip..
really?!!...ugg..yeah, why did we even do anything after the invention of the radio..who wants to see their entertainment when the mind is best to make images..this tv nonsense is a gimmick and nobody will want it -seemingly the majority of ats at the moment...weirdos

However looking at it , I sure will buy this thing to experience it in full myself , and probably have to say bye bye to my social life..
Btw ATS should build a virtual lunchroom for the ones who are connected to website. .
