Trump was interviewed on the OReilly factor this evening. OReilly asked him about the loans to his primary campaign.

They explained that the loans were recommended by lawyers (as mentioned above), and that the donations from the presidential campaign "could" be used to pay back the loans. But Trump said that he does not need to accept the payments, and does not intend to.

ETA: Trump said he spent $11 million, and I think there was another $54 million considered as loans, for which he does not need to accept payment.
He also made a good point that he spent significantly less than other candidates, some of whom spent $200 million, but then did not finish the primaries.

He and others have explained that many times.

The donations button is for SMALL donations so that people can feel involved in the primary campaign. There were no large donations accepted. The amount contributed from the donate button was insignificant.

insignificant or not the point is that he is NOT self funded.
