Kathryn Smith has been hired for the regular season as a FT coach for the Buffalo Bills. She will be the Special teams Quality Control Coach.
A female FT coach has been hired once before, bu another team, but not for regular season games.

Proud to be from the city that breaks this glass ceiling

Smith followed Ryan as he transitioned from Head Coach of the New York Jets to his position in Buffalo. She started her career with the Jets as an intern, and quickly worked her way up to a Player Personnel Assistant, then to Assistant to the Head Coach. In Buffalo, she served as Administrative Assistant to the Head Coach.

This is great to hear! I know quite a few women who know their sports like it's their religion, it's about time we see one in a Coach position

Just what does a "quality control" coach do? Especially for special teams?
Then again as I remember Buffalo was always a VERY special team...

That's fitting. The game resembles more of a girl's sport nowadays compared to when I was growing up. Such a shame.

Right, we should totally go back to ignoring all the after affects the players had and just let them try and kill each other out on the field.

As long as we get our enjoyment for the three hours or so!

I kinda think the NFL's days are numbered.

Girlie men sports like soccer and badmitton will take over.

Yes. Buffalo puts a lot of emphasis on Special teams, like kickers etc.

Quality Control Coach

They spend all day multitasking, breaking down film up to five weeks in advance and analyzing data. They work all hours, in hotel lobbies, on airplanes and at their team's headquarters producing reports for their Head Coach. They do get to do some coaching though. The QC coaches often run the "Scout" team in practices. From their extensive film work and breaking down plays, the QCC can be a great help preparing their team because they know the tendencies of their opponents.

Since they realized some players were dying young due to missing knowledge of head trauma and concussions, even after they knew, some changes had to be put in place. It is still VERY MUCH a full contact sport with injuries.

Sometimes they are actually coaching, one on one with players. Sometimes they are coming up with strategy to present to the head coach, based on films and past history of the opposing team. That is definitely a coach.
