Officers can take cash and property from people without convicting or even charging them with a crime — yes, really! — through the highly controversial practice known as civil asset forfeiture. Last year, according to the Institute for Justice, the Treasury and Justice departments deposited more than $5 billion into their respective asset forfeiture funds. That same year, the FBI reports that burglary losses topped out at $3.5 billion.

No big deal right?

The war on drugs or the war on freedom in America what's the truth?

This is why people fear police more than criminals.

Now back to reading how you all misunderstand the economy...

There's even a story floating around out there about one police dept. buying a margarita machine for the station from civil asset forfeiture.

I'm not surprised there is literally no morality left.

This country is taking a #.

Power corrupts.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Otherwise known as organized crime.

This kind of stuff makes the mafia look like Mother Theresa.

That's it's kind of funny that it was called a "margarita machine."

It is pretty bad here. When I lived in Central America I saw less corruption.

Corruption there may cost you $50 because f a bad beat cop, but here they will take everything run it through their system and call legit.

Land of the free my arse.

Actually, Phage, there are products marketed as margarita machines. Some resemble blenders, others do not. Just for clarity's sake.
