I know... Looking at how aggressive some of Trump's supporters get in defending him has really shown me that what you say here is true. I was trying to be hopeful... Unfortunately you are right. Trump has an amazing cult of personality right and all traditional reasoning can be thrown out the window when talking about him. I'm really at a loss here how I've seen some of these same people on ATS getting mad at Obama or liberals for tearing up the Constitution, but when Trump talks about doing it they sing and celebrate his praises.

It's always been like that though. As an example, back when Reagan was governor of California, the Black Panthers had an armed march on the State Capitol building. They literally did the same thing 2nd amendment groups do when they do open-carry marches on public places. Their message was that the 2nd amendment applied to black people, too. In response, Reagan & the Republicans signed into law the "Mulford Act" which restricted gun rights lol.

They have no problem with gun rights for themselves, they just don't want us "undesirables" to have the same rights. If Trump said no Muslims should be allowed to have guns, many of his supporters would support it too, regardless of their "normal" views on the 2nd amendment. It's the same for the rest of the Constitution.

Reagan was very anti gun. At every opportunity he had he tried to restrict gun rights, and on several occasions he was successful.
