Man I could almost believe the cop panicked when dude turned a little bit and this wasn't entirely malicious, but the continued shots were completely absurd. So was essentially bumrushing the guy.

Disclaimer: I haven't really followed this case at all so perhaps I'm speaking from a position of ignorance on this one.

That being said, you pretty much summed up my initial thoughts.

I know we will never know the answers, but I always wonder what is actually going through the players' minds in these cases. What was it exactly the cop was thinking when he pulled the trigger?

And what was going through the victim's mind? Before people jump all over me... I AM NOT SAYING THAT HE GOT WHAT HE DESERVED.... NOT AT ALL... But those were NOT the mannerisms of someone in their right mind.

I would kind of buy what you said, until the kid hit the ground, but then this douche weasel cop emptied a f'n clip into him. Cop goes to prison for life, straight up murder.

All the more reason to be curious. What was the cop thinking? He KNOWS there are cameras everywhere (including but not necessarily limited to the dash-cams). So, even out of morbid curiousity.... what was he thinking? Or, is he a nut that was good at hiding it? Or did he just "snap"?

They let this bastard sit a desk and cash a check for a year, a whole freaking year. Knowing this scumbag murdered a citizen, EVERYONE who was on the Department who had seen this video or was on that scene should be prosecuted for Aiding and Abetting at the minimum. Hell they were obviously working together to keep it hidden, Rico Laws could come of use. Throw them under the jail! YESTERDAY!!!

Citizen? This cop may have committed murder but this piece of trash thug deserved it. He was no "citizen". Since when do people feel bad and cry when an enemy combatant is killed? They declared war on the police. You can't just say time out once it is on. Flame away.

to you too!

There was a day when I knew all the officers around here. When they drove by I'd wave as if it was a good friend and they'd wave back. if I passed one on the street, I would talk to them. When I got in trouble a few times they saw it as petty and let me off.

Today, I don't know any of them. I wave at them and get a stark look back and no wave back. A few times they turned around and followed me. I stopped waving after that. I don't think I would ever be let go around here for anything petty anymore.

I've thought a few times to go to the captain and raise the issue of police relationship with the general public then and how it is now. I'm too afraid I'd be marked. Pretty sad.

Times here have changed drastically.

That cop has had 18 previous complaints made against him including one that cost the city almost 600,000 and he was not disciplined on a single one. Maybe when you keep getting away with it..or maybe "held accountable" is a better phrase.. the boundaries grow farther and farther out.

In a past life, I have actually known several LEO's, of all of those I have known, the only one I would potentially think would snap, was shot and killed working off duty security. So I am honestly not sure, but I was taught to conserve my ammo, anytime someone empties his weapon into one individual, I have questions.

Since seeing some of this cops history, I'd say that the police force in whole is to blame. They kept putting band-aids on this guys actions and boom, he fooked up royally and took a man's life. How many more firecrackers are there in Chicago's police force? I'm sure many more possibilities.

The whole Chicago system sucks and needs to drastically change!

Won't happen under Obama though.

Unfortunately Obama cannot be responsible for every failure in the system, Chicago has had issues for many years, as have many other large metropolitan areas.

Chicago had issues long before Rahm or Obama were even gleams in their daddies eyes.

Often times the bystanders footage has not been tampered with like so much of the police footage that seems to go dark or quite at just the right time

The decisiveness of the city and the all out murders daily are all theirs though.

They have set new records for murders on their watch.

I would agree on the records for murders, but the corruption of Chicago politics is generations old. Not to mention the mob and prohibition. Don't worry my own city is third on the list outside of New York City and Chicago.

You are exactly right. However, it's not hard to put together an argument that things are not only not any better since they entered the picture, but are actually a heck of a lot worse.

Enemy combatant? War on the police? What the hell kind of psychotic brainwashing has taken over you? That whacked out mentality is more dangerous than any drug I have ever heard of.

This kid was trying to get away from the police. Hardly a declaration of war. I can't tell if you are a racist or just a steroid junkie cop who is high right now.

No it is not hard to put together that argument, but Obama has been blamed for tsunamis and earthquakes. He has disappointed me greatly, but not everything that happens in the world is his fault.

You summed-up exactly what I was thinking when I read that post. Well played.

The level of extremes we have been seeing lately on ATS has become a bit disturbing, regarding many issues.

Agreed Bubba, Chicago has had problems for eons and it's not all Obama's fault. It would be nice though if someone in that city would take it by the ballz and try to change all the corruption without ending up dead.

Wishful thinking.
