Sounds like they are taking a page from the cartels and what made them so successful.

And the Mongolians and the Romans and on and on... This is stick and carrot behavioral modification at its core. It is how you herd humans (or any animal) in the direction that you want them to go, both figuratively and literally. If you do the "wrong" thing (oppose the caliphate) we will make you suffer, if you do the "right" thing (join the caliphate) we will take care of you and you will prosper.

If I were faced with the choice of watching my children starve or survival well...

Allah Akbar or whatever they want me to say, whoever they want me to shoot, whatever.

Most of you will judge my lack of moral fortitude but at least I'm honest with myself. Most of you would also do the same whether you'll admit it or not.

I would rather die and have my children die then ever join or have them join this, people are sick today. I admit that!

Here is the UN refugee agency numbers of those arriving by boats in Europe...

846.119 arrivals by the sea in 2015

ONLY 52% are Syrians
62% men
16% women
22% children

data.unhcr.org...

You have a point as well. This is another perspective on the data and one worth considering too.

Personally, I think that watching your own children die so that you can selfishly uphold your principles is just as sick. Pick your poison.

People who love their families will do some wicked things to see them healthy and safe.

I know I'm capable of doing some pretty reprehensible stuff for those reasons, as I love my family enough to rationalize it for myself. There those whom in this thread take pride in their idealistic moral convictions and would refrain from going against SOME of their moral principles.
Should you condemn the persons actions? Sure but don't judge the individual overall as you don't have the full context of their strife to make such a judgment call either way.

ETA;
I think what should be condemned in this thread is the modus opprendi in which Daesh uses to prey upon those desperate enough to join their cause not those who are in that tough spot to begin with.

Kind of ignorant and short-sighted if you ask me. Putting their life on the line for money and material things and leaving their kids without a parent. That isn't my idea of thinking about the consequences of their decision to join ISIS. It's probably the reason why they recruit so many young people.

It's like telling someone I'll give you $50,000 dollars but the chances are against you, you'll have much time to enjoy it. Than again, many young people think they're indestructible and are very optimistic.

In Paris when they busted the apartment terrorists used, they found drug related items. Nazis used Pervitin which is crystal meth so they felt invincible and stress free and didn´t need to sleep and having more physical strenght in combats. Nazis gave up Pervitin when they noticed that without sleep soldiers started to see hallucinations. Soldiers had this stuff pockets full.

Soldiers were drugged when making war crimes, how much they remember actual happenings is unknown.

As an experienced user of amphetamines I can tell you that you remember it all provided you don't drink too much alcohol with it.

These Wahabbi devils are smashing extremely strong phet and if they ever come down they will certainly see what hell feels like.

That's why it is so easy to get them to kill themselves. Easier that way than to genuinely deal with the horror.

NATO troops and pilots have also been given various cocktails of feel good to help them deal with the horror.

It's all so wicked. I only ever did amphetamine to enhance party experiences.

www.npr.org... they took oil fields a while ago in iraq we are bombing them now i think

On Monday, U.S. warplanes flew low over an area in eastern Syria controlled by the Islamic State, or ISIS. The target was roughly 300 trucks used to transport crude oil for the terrorist organization, says Col. Steve Warren, the U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad. "We flew over with F-15s and we dropped leaflets we had developed, written in Arabic, that essentially said, 'Hey, run away, we're about to strike your trucks,' " he says.

business.financialpost.com... dunno about the saudis doing this but it covers the oil aspect

www.theguardian.com... they ahve had the feilds since 2014 at least

Are you sure all of those people are Syrian refugees though? They claim to be refugees, but they may not be from Syria. I thought the problem area was Syria? Isn't that where ISIS is supposedly sending its cadre of terrorists to sneak in as terrorists from?

So why should I worry about refugees who come from places other than Syria? It's the Syrian refugees everyone is up in arms about. Worrying about refugees from other countries is moving the goal posts.

So working to feed your children is out of the question...
The only way is to kill and torture other people's children in order to feed yours.

that explains a lot about the world we live in...

Good luck working to feed your children when the markets were bombed into oblivion and a civil war has shut down all trade.

KEY phrase from your article:
"This is a welfare state."

Who'd a thunk, ISIS were such Progressives? Looks like the Islamic Caliphate is a Socialist state.

Islam is closer to that than you might think. It has a lot in common with totalitarian, centrally planned economies in a lot of ways. They go hand a foot together.

As all the fake Syrian passports show ... no one really knows who anyone coming from the ME are or where they are from.

Those folks join for the violence..

excactly, so isis is full of wannabe killers and not the benevolent or needy people that this seems top be portraying

I think it could be easy to argue that a process of mental justification takes place before they just say "# it..." and join.
The process is probably a lot like this...
Join us
Nah
We'll pay you well if you do or starve you/kill you if you don't.....why not....look at how much those westerners hate muslims...they don't even want refugees (que ISIS propaganda machine....)
Ok...# it...I'm in....

War is a nasty thing. People do and justify TERRIBLE actions during it because the watchful eye of authority is non-present.

I'll take up your cause Krazy - with one example though there are plenty more

Drone operators - do they do it for love, do they do it for money?

If you do it for a cause is it less reprehensible?

You can't even have this.argument let alone win it - though I admire you for trying

ISIS is evil, if you believe in evil - and we're all going to be up against it for a long time

But morality is maleable and relative - we shouldn't be afraid to look ourselves in the eye and examine what it is we humans do and just exactly why we do it

There are plenty of stories in the ME of parents that had a child taken from them - nothing left but a puddle of blood in the dirt

Somebody was paid to do that

You don't have to be a sympathizer or an apologist to be able to understand how life works
