Thinking about seeing 'The Martian' today.
The trailer looks great:
www.youtube.com...

...and I loved the book.
Nevertheless, Hollywood can still manage to easily butcher a terrific story.
If you've seen it,....what do you think? YAY?...or NAY?

To be honest with you I have a bad feeling about this one. They sure have pushed the trailers at us like they Re desperate.
This thread could be interesting.

Saw a screener copy last week, it was fantastic, I really enjoyed the film as it stuck close to the book in almost all major plot points.

The review I saw of it yesterday from Mark Kermode was enough to convince me (don't watch films) to go watch this film , he said it was so good he could have watched it again straight after.

Looks like this may be the Mars film we've all been waiting for.

What? John Carter and Ghosts of Mars didn't do it for you?

Tell your friend to read the book, it has nothing to do with that film.

Interstellar stands on it's own.
They're not connected...although, I haven't seen The Martian yet. I hope Hollywood doesn't try to connect them...don't know how they could, though.

I really liked it.. found it funny, beautiful and well acted.
Wasn't quite "great" but it was well worth a watch and thoroughly entertaining.
There's a debate raging about this, Interstellar, Contact... Moon etc etc on IMDB.

This is nothing like those films, it's a straight film, nothing paranormal or particularly metaphysical or whatever.

It wouldn't be a sequel.. it would technically be a prequel to interstellar.

I wonder if they'll do a big budget version of Casey and Andy?

If it follows the book at all, there shouldn't be. The book was all more like Robinson Crusoe on Mars in the sense that he got dealt a bad hand, got marooned and had to make do with what he had to survive and get rescued.

I want to see it, because I love all large production Sf movies.

It's a great story and something that's within our reach, this could actually happen for real. Now that water is present on Mars I think plans will quicken and Mars one will get maybe more attention the upcoming years.

But I ask myself would we rescue a Martian colonist if he got stuck on Mars like in the movie.
I think we would just as a prestige that we could pull of this thing.

Just got back! Go see it...you won't be disappointed.
Beautifully done, believable with great special effects...It was as good as the book (which is saying a lot!).
