US ‘preparing’ for hybrid warfare with Russia in Baltics – report

US has been getting ready for a possible war involving Russia in Europe’s Baltic States, German media reports. The report says all the NATO war games organized in the region by Washington have been intended to prepare various military response scenarios.
The Pentagon has shifted its military thinking when it comes to Moscow, selecting Russia’s direct neighbors in the Baltic region as the battleground, Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten (DWN) writes.

What the US sees playing out is hybrid warfare, which employs irregular troops and focuses on destabilizing the region via mass rallies as well as cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure, according to the newspaper.

I really wish RT had the source for this report . I was not able to find it .

he conflict in Ukraine has been used by the US as a catalyst for more preparations: “Russia’s invasion of Eastern Ukraine urged the US to dust off its emergency plans. They were pretty outdated,” former US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and co-founder of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), Michele Flournoy, was quoted as saying.

Moscow, however, has repeatedly denied playing a role in the Ukrainian conflict. Despite repeated accusations by Kiev and its Western backers that Russia was supporting the rebelling eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Lugansk with weapons and manpower, no evidence has been presented to support the claims.

I am fairly certain Moscow has some sort of vested interest in this conflict .

Nevertheless, since the crisis in Ukraine began, the number of war games held by NATO in Europe has surged. All of the military exercises have focused on a response to a situation in which Russia presumably takes over the Baltic region.

According to the German newspaper, a “Russian threat” has been used as an excuse to justify increased military spending in eastern European NATO countries and provide a reason for US troops to be stationed in Europe.

DWN adds that there are 40,000 US soldiers in Germany alone, with additional American tanks and artillery on their way to the Baltic States.

So far, the Pentagon has only war games in mind for the Baltic States. However, nuclear options are also being examined. Recent reports have suggested that US nuclear weapons could soon be coming to Germany, despite a 2009 decision to withdraw the old American nuclear arsenal.

Last week there were media reports that the Pentagon was reviewing and updating its contingency plans for a war with Russia for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Whelp I i guess we wait for Moscow's response .

Not sure what to think at this point , feel like things are really starting to heat up and its a bit scary if you ask me . I am not one to get off on the doom porn but as time goes on this doom and gloom feeling i get when reading about this stuff seems to be driving me into survival mode , etc etc .

If the US was wanting to go to war with Russia...they would have over Ukraine when it started.

This is just more propaganda to help Putin keep the " Fear America " rhetoric going to keep himself looking good.

This is the same BS he said while sending troops and weapons into Ukraine. Nothing new from the Kremlin.

I am sure TPTB are uping thier strategy to bring forth WW3. So who is really the threat to world peace?

As long as Russia, doesn't react then I think things won't escalate. However, with the Ukraine crisis and while Russia is increasing military presence in Syria, this seems like the best shot TPTB has at covincing the Nato and the rest of the world to intimidate Russia in to war.

Why, because they cite a German source without naming it? The trail ends at the Kremlin.

Two more less than credible "sources" which have no source themselves. Maybe you can point out where the specific claims made by the Kremlin can be sourced?

Yes, those are independent reports nothing from the western media, if that's what your insinuating. Other than that it's old news reports from US Nato war games since June of 2015.

Whether games have rampped up since then, we don't know. If Russia is reporting it cause it is a cause for concern for them why does it matter, while everyone else believes in western media to tell the real story.

So what was your point again?

I think the german source is this.

Did some digging and it's an alarmist website that is known for "questionable facts", and it's business model appears to be causing "media hysterity".

So it seems like a German Infowars. There is no actual source, just made up BS.

The German Economic news are the Kopp-Verlag for "something with economy". The business model is simple: If possible, paint hysterical Untergangsszenarieren on the wall so that unsuspecting readers on all channels to point all of your contacts on it, which in turn click on the (intended) and so much advertising is sold with little effort. The lurid, the more doom and conspiracy theory is, the better selling a story.

Not sure what you're on about? But do you think RT reporting this, is no less real news than if the western media would have reported it.

Would you agree if Russia was playing thier war games near US borders, would that be no different than what the USA is doing right now with Nato forces?

I don't think Russia would be playing any games near USA boarders anytime soon, as the western media will further play the "Russian Agression" card. And so would this not be seen as being an "alarmist" repoting as well?

It's all propaganda, but the real cause for concern here is there lies potential of this war games escalating to war against Russia.

As it is, I don't see any real reason for the war machine to start a war with it's cold war foe, but being close to the Russian border, anything can happen from an accidental missil hit to a russian base or vice versa. And the real games begins from there.

How do I put this RT DUH!. Irrespective of any published source if you cannot verify the content by cross referencing with outlets of varying political biases then, quite frankly, it's b.llocks.

Unfortunately the majority of folks here on ATS get themselves worked up into an orgasmic frenzy by regurgitating nonsense without doing this. Deny ignorance ? More like embrace it with a slobbery kiss and box of kleenex!

War games usually involve a few thousand soldiers. You want to see Intimidation....imagine a few carrier attack groups coming over the horizon.

This is intimidation.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree to a certain extent. Its just my opinion, but it appears to me that Putin needs a bogie man as much as anyone does to keep his people distracted and to keep them in a nationalistic mood which seems to be the source of his popularity.

But here's the real question....who are TPTB? The "Corporatists"? The multi-national corporations don't necessarily profit from an outbreak of WWIII. In fact most of these corporations are losing money because of the loss of trade and commerce imposed by the sanctions.

TPTB? Washington DC and the US government? The world hasn't seen any "leadership" out of the US in 8 years. Obama prefers to lead "from behind".

So, I see this paranoia coming out of RT and to me it just seems silly. There isn't any "Western" leadership. The Germans are interested only in money and the European Union. The French are interested only in better wine and cheese. The Brits engage in daily hand wringing over their economy and the threats of recession.

There's just.....nothing there!
